What to get after taxes?

So after taxes I should have about $1300-$1500 to play around with freely and I have yet to decide on what I could or should get. So what's your opinion? So far all I have is Stillen Intake and Ark exhaust.

Side note: I'll be moving to Germany in like 3 weeks so getting stuff before I leave would probably be cheaper than shipping it out.

shadoquad 01-28-2011 09:54 AM

Tough call. You've already got sport pkg, I see, so wheels/brakes probably aren't a dire need at this point. Test pipes or HFC's are a possibility, but they're not for everyone.

My favorite inexpensive mod so far is the rear fog lamp with OEM switch, but again it's personal preference.

Maybe a suspension upgrade? I don't know much about those mods, but they seem to be popular.

m4a1mustang 01-28-2011 09:58 AM

You could get some decent coilovers for around that price.

Corona370z 01-28-2011 10:03 AM

Actually, it's the base model. But maybe I'll just save up a little more and invest in tire/wheel/brakes. But suspension upgrade is not a bad idea.

D'oh, I fail.

If you look around the classified section, occasionally sport rims pop up there for that price range. I've also got a base, and I like the 18" rims, so I'm sticking with them for a while. But it's an option.

m4a1mustang 01-28-2011 10:07 AM

I like the base wheels too. I think coils + spacers would be nice if you wanted to keep the stock wheels.

kenchan 01-28-2011 10:21 AM

if i had to spend 1500+ on my car it would be on coilovers... i'd get KW's too.

after that i'd get wheels maybe. not sure, im pretty happy with the car the way it is especially in the sport wheel and suspension dept. :)

ProfessorDave 01-28-2011 10:29 AM

Lsd

spearfish25 01-28-2011 10:29 AM

If I had base brakes, I'd upgrade the brakes way before coil overs.

yah, that's a good idea.

wat is the braking distance for the base brakes from 60mph?

in comparison, akebono's are like 112ft, right?

I'm definitely replacing my brakes at some point, but being stingy, I'm gonna wait until I wear them down. But yeah, braking distance is fairly iffy for the Z on base brakes. :ugh:

I thought the braking distance was roughly the same. The only difference was really a result of the better tires on the Sport package cars.

Though after 3-5 really hard stops then the difference between braking distances would start to grow exponentially. :icon17:

Here you go Ken:
Carbonetic Front 1.5 Way Metal Limited Slip Differential Honda Fit 06+

And it won't even cost you all of Corona's tax refund

hahaha, thanks! i think im going to get a LSD in my dd in the way of getting a new car. will see later on. the Fit's 'ok' but my younger kid is now finally in the range of safely sitting on booster seats so going to use my G35C once it gets warm as my dd and this fall probably sell both cars and get either a new STI hatch or MS3. not sure which. obviously my Z stays. :p

Corona370z 01-28-2011 11:46 AM

Thanks for the input so far everyone.

kenchan 01-28-2011 11:58 AM

so corona- are you going to do brakes instead of coilovers? :)

Jeffblue 01-28-2011 12:04 PM

i think coilovers would put the biggest smile on your face in terms of actual driving experience, as well as the drop looking nice.

If you are going to Germany would be a good idea to save for a "huptie", Winters are bad over there, plus they used a lot of salt.

On the other side you maybe can get some coilovers or lowering spring, camber kit, etc.

I think I might go with a lowering kit and brakes since I have been thinking about it for a while. But then again since it is my DD, maybe saving up for a "huptie" might be better. It's up in the air.

Red__Zed 01-28-2011 05:03 PM

I'd go coils or lsd.

I think it you bother replacing the brakes, it would be smart to go straight to a high performance set. The akebono's are good, but probably not worth dropping $1400+ over the base brakes.

Sounds like you are taking your car to Gemany?
Isn't the fog light mandatory over there?
