need help with tire / battery

370z is my first sports car and i just went to dealership to get something fixed

and they told me i need new tires and new battery. he told me its cranking low? that it will die before summer time

i had my car for year and a half with just little over 19000 miles!

i need some opinions whether i should change my tire and battery

GZ3 01-27-2011 04:15 PM

how worn are you tires? Are they balding? As far as battery, i would get a quick 2nd opinion at autozone or pep boys, have them hook up thier battery tester...and go from there

EazyD 01-27-2011 04:18 PM

do you have the bridgestone potenza summer tires? treads are pretty thin on them on purpose, I think (I got mine used, tell me if I'm wrong?)

kenchan 01-27-2011 04:40 PM

at 19K miles on perf tires, i think you're done. i dont expect mine to last more than 15k miles.

for battery as posted above, go to a local car parts store and have it load tested. if you're over 250amps i think you're fine (500cca). im not sure wat the load rating is for our stock batteries but usually over 500cca.

cossie1600 01-27-2011 05:46 PM

buy them from tirerack (via the link), much cheaper

kenchan 01-27-2011 06:38 PM

X294 talk to alex.

You can search for alternative tire recommendations, if you want more performance you can get something like RE11, or quieter and longer lasting, something like Hankook Ventus V12, or all season, maybe Continental ExtremeContact DWS.

Tire Tech Information - Measuring Tire Tread Depth with a Coin

Being that your car is only a year and half old I would think it's covered under the warrantee. If they want to replace it then let them but don't pay for it before having it tested somewhere else. Tires are probably done. 19K out of the stock tires is about right.

IDZRVIT 01-28-2011 11:42 AM

If your tires aren't done by 19K miles, especially the rears, you aren't having enough fun with your Z!

good tip with coin. make sure to measure the inner treads too, not just the outer treads on this car. :)

maro 01-28-2011 03:38 PM

i drive my z every single day!

i will definetely get new tires but im going to check my battery maybe tommrow

the guy at dealership told me i only have to pay the half of price($50) since its under warranty

kenchan 01-28-2011 03:43 PM

huh, $50 isn't bad for insurance. but yah, get it checked out. auto parts places measure for free. :)

if you really want to go the extra mile, get a redtop.

Cleto 01-28-2011 07:46 PM

put new shoes, and new batteries on that toy!

PapoZalsa 01-28-2011 08:37 PM

The dealer doesn't warranty the battery, however it looks like too early for it to go bad. it might have factory warranty left. The tires with 19K?, Yes is time to change the tires most likely.

I have 18500 on my tires and they are done I'm going in the morning to have the new ones put on. I got the hankook V12 and went wider then stock. It was still under 1000

USNA94 01-29-2011 12:06 AM

I purchased the Hankooks a few months ago and have been very happy with them. I checked the price for them on TireRack.com and actually found them cheaper online at discounttires.com (note the "s" in tires as this place is different than "Discount Tire Store".

Z eliminator 01-29-2011 07:48 AM

I think that the battery is pro rated for 3 years if the dealer changes it

junior_jam 01-29-2011 09:41 AM

My stock tires have over 26,000 miles and I keep checking them because that seems high. Lincoln's head still isn't covered, so they still have life in them. Literally 99% of my driving is on the highway, so I guess they last significantly longer without starting/stopping and turning.

I'd like to replace my base stock tires with tires that will be as much quieter as possible. I'm not concerned about performance, etc. more so a quiet ride. Recommendations/

I had Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus on my '09 Z. They were quieter but you still had road noise in the cabin. The Michelin's didn't pick up rocks and gravel like the Yokohama's did so that was a plus.

My fun comes by blowing past people who stagnate in the left lane. Because my house and my work are both within ~1/2 mile from the highway, I don't get a chance for many quick starts. My car isn't warmed up by the time I get to the on ramp to the highway, so I can't even gun it then. I guess the tires like high speed, straight line fun.

i just check my battery from autozone and its in good condition.

it was 88 percent

so i dont know how long this gonna last?

im getting my new tires though!

bleufiend 02-02-2011 06:10 AM

If your cars over 2 years old from the month it was produced Id be concerned about the battery, if not then just be mindfull of your Z when it cranks and how long it takes. You can tell prob about a couple weeks out when your cars starting to take longer to crank.

Super Red Z 02-02-2011 03:04 PM

The dealer told me the same thing for a year ago about the battery until now it still fine for me.I think every dearler need more work and money...
