Did anyone cross shop used cars as well?

Yeah, those cars are just a lot more rare. Besides, it's pretty much impossible to give a car a thorough inspection pre-purchase. Too many issues only crop up in certain situations, or relatively infrequently, and things like oil consumption are only noticeable over the longer term.

Both Z's that I've bought were low mileage used cars. (05 350z and now 09 370z). I was considering a new G37 along with new 370zs but when I found mine that only had 5500 miles sport touring 6spd for 26500 the decision was pretty clear.

I didn't at the time, but traded the Z in for a used car in November. My Jag isn't perfect, but driving a paid off car is nice too. I did spend about $3k going through the car as I plan to keep it for 2-3 years and then buy another high end used car. Parts are expensive though, I just priced struts at $300, each. A rear diff goes for at least $1500 etc.

I was looking for a Cayman, but decided to go with a new Z.

one more year i might trade my Z for a Cayman.

I called the Porsche dealership. they said major tuneup only costs around $500. even my previous corolla costed more than that for a major tuneup. I guess Porsche maintenance costs are not that high.

You may be surprised

I was looking at a Cayman S but since I wanted a PDK I couldn't justify the price over a new Z, but then a used Z with all the options I wanted became locally available.

Of course, I looked for an NSX before that, but only one I would consider was on sale in the couple of years I was searching autotrader.

Dennis Rodman? enough said. She is pretty in pictures, but not enough brain cells left to hold an intelligent conversation.
I would have to get rid of other cars to get a z06. It would be fun, but I like the variety in the garage.

I've reached the point in my life where it's only new cars for me. I've had more than my share of total beaters to somewhat reliable used cars over the years based on finances but nowadays it's a different story.

-used Evos and STIs

Those were the biggies, although I never realistically considered the Evo/STI option. For me, I would have loved an M5 but I could not afford upkeep even though I had found cars that already had the trouble areas fixed such as the weak clutch and VANOS. GTOs were really nice but in the end, I felt the Z had more character, styling, and was more driver focused which I liked and continue to enjoy today.
Yea you were looking along my line too, I considered a 1 owner 2001 M5 a 2006 Vette with a Z51 pkg. and I was looking for a G8 with a GPX pkg. but they only made about 1300 so prices were high, I settled on the Z for similar reasons. Now if it only had a turbo or V8.

I cross shopped a 2011 370z touring sport auto for 38.5k vs my 09 base/sport auto for 30k out the door with 4800miles. I saved the 10k instead. Besides my build number is 35xx jan 09. I like having an original. besides I want to customize my interior and install high end recaros so base sport was more appealing in more than just price.

I test drove a bunch of cars before getting a 370.

C6 Z06, E92 M3 (nice car), Evo, few others, but 370 suited me the most.

I previously owned a supercharged c5 z06 and was set on buying a used c6 z06. That was before I test drove a new 370z. I bought the 370 that night and have no regrets.

I was set on getting an e46 m3 but decided that the maintenance costs would be too high and I wanted something new after having bad experiences with used cars in the past

I shopped a used '08-09 Viper.

I set my price point at $60K +- about 15K and looked at every car under the sun in that range. So yes, I did cross-shop a Z with a used car, albeit a totally different sort.
