Not Oil Temp Again

I know not another oil temp concern but it's a slow night...

So it's been around 45 to 50 degress everyday here not normal but anyway.

Oil temp's been averaging around 195-200... I know i'm saying it again nissan
should address this. But they won't so we all deal with it..... sorry to ramble....

What type of oil and how old it is can be a factor as well. I find that the older the oil is the faster the temps rise and stay there longer. I only use royal purple with their synthetic filter and a 34 row oil cooler and never get above 200 even on a hot day setting in traffic (also change it every 5000). but when I get on the freeway it drops really quick back down to 180. Unless you are going with FI you should only need a small oil cooler to control the temps. Also if you are not afraid of road debree or bumps, you can remove the under shroud and the wind blowing under the car will cool it down quickly. I did this before the oil cooler and it kept the temps around 190-220 at freeway speeds.

interesting! Can someone add the "ice-something" product with the coolant to lower the water temp? We can see if the oil goes down with it.

If this works, it might be "the Solution"!!!!

those are good oil operating temps.....

PapoZalsa 01-16-2011 08:43 PM

We still in freaking Winter!!

Anyway I don't worry about that issue until the car is out of warranty.

spearfish25 01-16-2011 08:46 PM

So now people are concerned that their oil temps are too normal? I don't get it.

sucasa 01-16-2011 09:36 PM

did some spirited driving this weekend in northern VA. temps in the low 40-50.. my car is auto.. oil temp was steady at 180 degrees for over 1.5 hours of driving.. as long as the car is warrantied and i get my regular oil changes.. i will nissan deal w/ the oil temp issues..

If you do put on a cooler, which one is the most popular one? Where is the best place to get it?

younter 01-16-2011 10:57 PM

I would perfer Stillen...

EazyD 01-16-2011 11:21 PM

Isn't 200 kind of normal for a car?

younter 01-16-2011 11:34 PM

I dont know if is normal in winter thou....

odie99 01-16-2011 11:41 PM

Winter just means the ambient temps are different. The temperature in your combustion engine will just take longer to get to operating spec in the winter. Kind of the same reason diesels run block off plates in cold weather.
