Cold air intake

Hey guys, I was just wondering if I could get some good recommendations on a cold air intake kit for my 370z and a site where I can get it at a good price. I'm looking for something good but nothing over 5 bills please. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Welcome! :hello:

Stillen G3 or Injen's, are the most common. Stillens produce more hp and cost a little more than Injens which are close to $500. Research both and decide what works for you?
Stillen is a Sponser here and you can Pm Josh or Kyle for a price. good luck

Kastley85891 01-13-2011 09:21 PM

Keep an eye in classifieds - G3's if you really want to get a CAI

intakes

i have a nismo 370z. i was wondering if the stillen gen 3 cai would fit on my car? has anyone with the same car installed one on theirs? who makes a better cai between stillen and injen? thanks for any suggestions/opinions.

One_Quick_Z 01-19-2011 12:50 AM

Yes they will work just fine with your nismo.

Stillen is the better choice for the CAI, but best bang for $ is K&N drop in filters with HPS post MAF tubes.

cold air

Thanks for the advice! I think I will go with stillen from what I'm seeing.

What is a cold air intake for my 370Z?

I just recently bought a used 09 370Z Touring with sports package. I have the injen cold air intake in mind but its 490 and i think its a bit pricey. I was wondering if there were any other good cold air intakes for cheaper or around the same price. Thank you

Congrats. As far as cold air off the top....injen like you mentioned, alot of people on here have stillen g3. I went with AEM ETI intake. Maybe google it but I read good reviews, seems to gain throughout entire rpm band and also found it on a site called autoplicity for under $400 shipped brand new.

Only other options for cai is either Takeda or Stillen Gen3's

What do you think about this K&N Typhoon Kit? Good for its price? Good product in general?

For that price? Go with Stillen Gen 3's and get the most power from a cai or Takeda's But I don't know what the powers gains are on those since I've never used them.

The cheapest and best way to go IMHO. You can do the install yourself and the money you save put towards a new exhaust, HFCs, or test pipes! If you are planning on adding these mods anyway...there is no significant gain in horsepower or torque by getting a CAI.

Gauge 02-10-2013 09:30 AM

Takeda is a good option as it requires no cutting of your car to make it fit. Also the gains on takeda ar eonly slightly less than stillen gen 3. It's up to you though.

True but that's the first thing one should upgrade on.IMO

Gauge 02-10-2013 09:44 AM

Also consider that the CAI is a much easier install. You can do it yourself in about an hour.

Drop ins and MAF Tubes are the easiest to install of the intake mods. But for sure if you are talking about Cats and other exhaust mods.

K&N 69-7078TS Intake Kit - Typhoon System Cold Air

I'd prefer this over cutting the car.

SS_Firehawk 02-10-2013 11:46 AM

Best bang for the buck on cold air intakes are AEM's. I've routinely seen them for low $400's and you can get them in dark silver powder coating from AEM.

LMBmikeZ 02-10-2013 02:03 PM

I am going with Takeda CAI this summer, everyone who has reviewed them seems as happy if not happier then the ones with the G3's. Like many other people have mentioned there is no cutting for instal of the Takeda intakes which is a pro over the stillens and the gains are almost identical

SmileyZ 02-11-2013 09:28 PM

Anybody have the K&N ones? Previous owner installed them. Seem to be fine, just looking for some experienced info.

axmea? 02-11-2013 09:58 PM

Between the Stillen G3's and the Takeda, I bet you would not be able to tell the difference when you drive it. The difference if so minimal, you'd probably have a tough time distinguishing. Boils down to dollars and preference but that's just me.

nissan394 02-12-2013 11:40 AM

i have injens from my 350z the silicone elbows are a tight fit and it takes minor fabricating but they are basically the same as stillen gen 3's and cost me about $150 less:tup:

courtesynissan. look for 370Z stock intake. np!

TheGreatOne 02-12-2013 02:48 PM

Injen intake made for the 370 requires no cutting as well, I have the black version.

But definitely it seems top 3 CAI's are the Stillen G3, Injen and Takeda(lots of positive reviews about them lately)

Mont 02-27-2013 11:31 AM

If you haven't made a purchase, and to all other readers asking the same question as the OP, DO NOT buy the Injens.

I too purchased them for the lower price, the fact that there's minor cutting involved (a very small notch), and they offered them in black (my Z is black). However due to their location of the filters I've had issues with keeping them dry. They have been on my car almost 1 1/2 years, and every time it rains it reduces me to an irate "granny shifter." With even the slightest rainfall it throws my car into limp mode. So far I've found the only way to avoid the embarassment of riding a bucking stallion through a busy intersection is to upshift before the 2500 rpm fuel cutoff until I get to an appropriate gear (depending on posted speed limits).

I should mention that my car is at stock height (I didn't add coilovers due to this issue:shakes head:), I always park my car facing downhill, and I try my best to avoid standing water. Some may ask, "If they're such a pain in the a$$ why do you still have them?" They're already on my car, and I'm never in the US long enough to worry about changing them out. Just thought I'd steer anyone away from experiencing the same problems.

Apoc370z 02-27-2013 12:00 PM

I heard stillen cai affects lower end rmp/torgue, main reason why i went with k & n drop ins for my daily

gsxr750 02-27-2013 02:31 PM

Save your money and put it towards gas, CAI intakes are worthless and your car already comes with cold air intakes, HP gains are almost negligable with these aftermarket kits.

kenchan 02-27-2013 02:32 PM

the stock dual intakes were good enough for amuse's 350Z race car, i think it is more than plenty on our 370Z street cars.

Garrett63 02-27-2013 06:17 PM

Autoanything.com has the Takeda stage 2 with the "WELCOME15" coupon code drops it to $378ish with free shipping. best price on that intake i have ever seen. I was going to jump on it, but I'm looking into the R2C intake.

SS_Firehawk 02-27-2013 06:22 PM

$372 for powder coated gray AEM's , $321 for polished aluminum on amazon a year and a half ago... Never seen it cheaper after I ordered a set. Now both are over $400.

I was playing with Torque Pro today checking the temperature of the intake air.
After 11 miles of interstate driving, at 45 degrees outside temperature this morning and at 190 degrees engine temperature, Torque Pro showed the incoming intake air at 66 degrees while stopped at a stop light. Driving at 60 MPH the intake air was 59 degrees. I can't see any benefit from after market cold air setups.

:iagree: with you Kenchan, all you need with the K&N air filters are Post MAF Tubes and your done with the CAI. Or you can be like me and add every hose Z1 Motorsports sells in silicone, i have them all installed except the heater hose set, the brake booster hose, and the breather hose set :happydance:

alcheng 03-01-2013 11:52 PM

I have the K&N short ram, I didn't dyno it thus I can't tell you how many horses we are talking about, but it does breath better especially from 3000rpm and up compare to a K&N drop-in, (Yes, I had the drop-in prior to the short ram)

For under $300 I think it's a good investment both performance and price.

Plus no cutting or whatsoever, even to wash the filter is easy cos you don't need to take off the bumper.

That's cool and all lol no pun intended but long tube intake gains / benefits aren't from just the cool air.

Something to think about as well is the Stillen G2. You can get it for $427.00 which includes shipping on the Stillen website.

I just recently went with this system over the G3 for ease of access to the filters. Did not want to take my bumper off to either install a CAI or when maintenance was necessary.

The sound the G2's make is quite impressive especially under WOT. I am really happy with them.
