Umm.. I was being kind in case he reads this -- closer to 400 is a better estimate.

Ive said in other threads that people dont really considering living with the Z 10 months down the road and your bringing up these things right now (good start) If you buy the Z you have to know that its not practical. your friends can STFU and drive their own car. Honestly. If they want you to get a car to haul them around in, then have them help pay for you to get a car different from the one you want. Borrow your parents RX when the rare time comes that you have to move something big. As for the guilt about your mom, first off sorry for the Polio but thats something you have to decide. About 2 years ago my fathers health was really bad and so when I was getting another car, i just got an automatic GTO. its not what i wanted, but it was still at least fun and an auto incase anyone had to drive to the hospital at any time. Now, 2 years later, my dads health is like 500times better so I got the car i wanted. a 370z. Although i was in a position where i also picked up a versa at the same time for practicality reasons. So again, maybe you shouldnt get the Z. instead get something temporarily for like 2 years until you know you'll be in a position to get something you want. and 2 years does go by faster than you think. |

It's simple. The Z isn't a practical car. It's a sports car. It was designed to be good at being a sports car. It's all about really knowing what you want. You are unsure for a reason. Discover, understand, and come to terms with that. Then make up your mind and don't look back.

The gears are closer spaced, the power under the curve over distance accelerated due to the more proliferate and closer spaced gears as compared to the 6-speed more than makes up for the power loss. That's all there is to it and no need to re-hash all the other business.

[QUOTE=wdkwang;879536]I'm bout to turn 24, and getting the 370z with the help of my parents financing it. I did feel confident about getting the car but since after telling my friends about it, some of them pointed out how its not a practical car to own. No backseats, very small truck space, and seats don't recline (for let's say napping or chilling with a girl in the car). Another point was how it's a nice car to look at and drive, but not own (probably for the reasons said). That got me shaken a bit, cause although 99% of the time I don't buy large purchases, or seat any more than 1 other person, there are times when I do. What if I buy something relatively big? It won't fit in the passenger seat cause it doesn't recline, there's no back seat to thrown it on, and the truck floor level to my surprise is unusually high that the trunk will have to be tied down with rope. I currently have an Integra, and there were times where the ability to recline the seats were very useful.
The other issue is guilt. Although my mother has a Lexus RX350, and my dad doesn't drive much anymore being that he works in the city and gave me his car. My mother is making a strong point that she doesn't like how I want stick shift cause she and my father know very well she physically cannot drive it since she has polio in her left leg and it's relatively weak, so the clutch will be a large hurdle. She just doesn't like the idea that shes financing car that she can't get a chance to drive, so I'm feeling like a selfish ****. But honestly, the 370 is just a car you can't have in automatic IMO. I'm a transporter for Nissan and had to drive 2 hours in a 370z auto, and as fun as it was, it didn't feel completely right. I just want some opinions. [/QUO dont worry its enough room for sex , just make sure the girl u get in ur car is short u kno no taller than 5'4 |

First off thanks to everyone who replied. I appreciate your thoughts ands suggestions I didn't expect this thread to go into 4 pages. As far as financing the car, I'm paying for 2/3 of it during the loan process and repaying the rest back later. I didn't walk into it expecting my parents to pay for it. I'm thinking of their retirement soon and I don't want them making sacrifices over the sake of a car. As for girls, I agree, I don't play around with fat chicks. I do still live at home but I have the first floor to myself so I have a room. I was talking about for those moments when your in a nice spot after driving somewhere and.. you know where this is going. As for friends, I'm glad most of my friends drive but there are some pain in the *** ones that don't and ask for rides like whatever. As nice as I try to be, I feel the need to educate them sometimes on how annoying it is to go out of my way to drive their *** from A to C when I'm over at E. As for picking between stick or auto, it's something I'll need more time to think about but I'm still leaning towards stick. As others have said, what's a sports car without a stick. Mind as well get a Versa or Altima.

Also, if you truly live in NYC (which I'm assuming you don't), owning any car is going to be a total nightmare. Most people there don't own cars for a reason. |

Forgot a few replies.
I was on the EVO, followed by the G37 for a while but I'm chosen the 370z for the reasons that it feels like the total package I need. A sports car, minus the shotty plastic interior of the EVO, plus the sportier edge over the more heavy, less aggressive-looking G37, and with practicality drawbacks I believe I can live with. I am single, living at home, and prefer not to carry more than 1 passenger. I always did I find it annoying to carry my friends or some friend's friends in the backseat and having to move my seat forward. I'm 6'2" and I need the position in the farthest position to be comfortable, so you can imagine how idiotic I look from a bystander's perspective with backseat passengers. As for girls, I agree, I don't do fat chicks. I currently live at home, and have the first floor to myself so having a room the for the girls isn't a problem. The instances were for those times that, I'm sure every guy knows what I'm talking about, where you just take her to a relatively secluded spot in those living-in-the-moment situations. As for my mother, she probably will not be driving my car no more than a few times, if that much. She does like her SUV and seems to prefer driving AWDs for safety reasons. I'm still doing the math on finances but I intend on paying for 2/3 of the amount through the duration of the loan and the remaining paid back to my parents after a bit. I'm not a momma's boy but I just don't like taking advantage of my parents at this age but the Integra is falling apart and has to go. The engine is fine with 112k and has been in the family since '92 but the repair costs for it outweigh the total value. I'm going to miss it but I have a friend of a friend that wants to take it off my hands. I still remembe riding in the backseat of it when I was 5 while my mom drove around shopping and whatever. Sigh, I digress. Thank you forum |

Oh and yes, I do live in NYC, in Queens. I think what your thinking about is Manhattan, in which I would agree in not being able to justify a car. Manhattan is a nightmare to drive in, parking is rare and expensive before 9pm. I mainly hang around other boroughs, where cars are convenient to have. I take the MTA to Manhattan. If cars are totally your thing than that's fine. But do yourself a favor and hold off until you have a steady job and can afford the car on your own. It's the winter anyways. Driving your old Integra a few more months won't kill you, plus it gives you time to save up some money.
Not familiar with the rents in Queens, but my sister lives in Manhattan and I know how expensive that is. She doesn't have a car though, so it offsets the cost of the high rent. |
