Auto w/FI?

I've really been wondering what to do with an extra 10 g's I have laying around, and thought about doing something ridculous to the Z:). However, mine is an auto. I'm worried if I add a SC, or TT is will melt the tranny. Thoughts? Opinions? FI would be a blast, but would it be better to trade it in for a manual for this sort of project? A GTM built tranny would put me out of budget.

Thanks!

slammiam 12-30-2010 10:46 PM

GTM has a full stage III trans capable of taking 600hp IIRC their website correctly. It's only $4500. Just to beef up the manual would be around $1500 of that. Pretty good deal! They also have the parts to improve the OEM auto trans for cheaper if you don't want a drop-in unit.

didnt know that,so it can be done, I guess I will have to ask my tuner to beef up my trans if I ever get FI

That is for the 5 speed auto, GTM just received Shumby's 7 speed auto this month and is working on upgraded parts as we speak.

Then GTM should update their site so it doesn't come up under "370Z" with the "VHR" motor. I did not catch that, thankyou!

Wasn't going to buy it from them anyway. the guy I go to does his own engine/gearbox modding.

THIS IS AN UNTRUTH THAT MANY PEOPLE CONTINUE TO SPREAD. I am the TT 7at install that Z1 did OVER A YEAR AGO! I have 2400 miles on my car AFTER the TT install and have had no problems. I am = in HP/TQ to most of the 6MT guys if not greater (458 whp/388 tq).

THE ONLY 7ATs THAT HAVE FAILED SO FAR HAVE BEEN ON SC CARS.....NOT TT CARS!

If you plan on a TT install, I highly suggest you call Z1 for pointers. Even if you dont use them, John and team are WHY my TT 7AT is solid and problem free.

There have been TT that have failed, check the Thailand thread.

There have also been non FI's manuals that have failed. There really isn't enough data out there yet to make a solid determination as to what these transmittions can take on average. As always, if you are an early adopter, you roll the dice.
