I was worried about reduced lifespan after the warranty expires, hence my mention of 61k. The encouraging comments here speak highly of the Z, so I'm feeling better about this morning's episode. Time to move on.

I should add that a proper break-in is not a condition of the warranty.
Dealer told me the exact same thing. When I asked them about break in, they said not to even worry about it lol. I'm still taking it kinda easy though.

No idea if its been mentioned in the four pages as I haven't read through it all but the burning smell is quite normal with new cars as all the stickers on the exhaust and such burn off when the vehicle is really driven for the first time.

some would recommend a very aggressive break-in, in the name of engine longevity:

who knows? maybe she did your engine a favor.

I wouldn't worry about the burning smell. It is more than likely just the "new" burning off. My Z had a funny smell for a few weeks after I bought it and then it just finally stopped. If any thing your wife saved you a few weeks of smelling something funny.

This is where you tell the wife...

"Great! Good job honey! You just blew the motor on the car...Now I need to go buy a fully built motor that is designed to handle the STILLEN forced induction system as soon as it becomes available. Plus the STILLEN exhaust and headers...Geez babe..."

...then take her to a deserted car park and show her your doughnuts.

ps - to those of you who think I'm daft to say that dealers look at these forums - I know for a fact that the guys in the service dept in my local dealers do, because we've chatted about it twice - and they know who I am! So like I said before, be careful what you post.

hey all, chubbs is right !... in fact, i can't even post why i know this b/c i'm wrapped up in an issue right now - there is a real risk that posts here can be misinterpreted and used against you if they link it back to your specific vehicle... post freely, just don't use your name, vin, plate # etc

the good news is that nissan is listening ! i totally applaud them for monitoring what their customers want/need !

Default Your car can tell on you!

This information is taken from the 370Z Owner's manual and can be found in section 9 page 20 Technical and consumer information. Someday a law enforcement person will point and electronic device at your car and your busted! It downloads instantly all the data from you cars EDR. Your VIN number, speed, time of day and so on. Take all this information with a "grain of salt" but be warned. This kind of recorder would almost be useless if it needed an event to set it off. After all a crash could instantly cut the power off. My guess is, it's always recording, maybe only 30 seconds over and over again but still recording. So maybe a warranty buster? maybe. You probably can tell I don't trust what they say about not recording under normal circumstances. I don't, normal might mean when the car is not running, OK just kidding but do read about it so you know.

EVENT DATA RECORDERS (EDR)

This vehicle is equipped with an Event
Data Recorder (EDR). The main purpose of
an EDR is to record, in certain crash or near
crash-like situations, such as an air bag
deployment or hitting a road obstacle, data
that will assist in understanding how a
vehicle’s systems performed. The EDR is
designed to record data related to vehicle
dynamics and safety systems for a short
period of time, typically 30 seconds or less.
The EDR in this vehicle is designed to
record such data as:
. How various systems in your vehicle
were operating;
. Whether or not the driver and passenger
safety belts were buckled/fastened;
. How far (if at all) the driver was
depressing the accelerator and/or
brake pedal; and,
. How fast the vehicle was traveling.
. Sounds are not recorded.
These data can help provide a better
understanding of the circumstances in
which crashes and injuries occur. NOTE:
EDR data are recorded by your vehicle only
if a nontrivial crash situation occurs; no
data are recorded by the EDR under
normal driving conditions and no personal
data (e.g. name, gender, age and crash
location) are recorded. However, other
parties, such as law enforcement, could
combine the EDR data with the type of
personally identifying data routinely acquired
during a crash investigation.
To read data recorded by an EDR, special
equipment is required and access to the
vehicle or the EDR is needed. In addition to
the vehicle manufacturer and NISSAN
dealer, other parties, such as law enforcement,
that have the special equipment, can
read the information if they have access to
the vehicle or the EDR.

LOL WOW does she not know how to drive? It is a automatic. WOW 7k. Don't let her drive it again or at least educate her before doing it again. Well i'm sure that's already been done. What mode did she have it on? That really sucks. Hope everything is ok.
