What is the worst gas for performance, mileage, Cost?
I was intrigued by the previous thread of the best gas for performance, mileage, etc.
What are your experiences with poorly performing gas and who sold it to you? I know I will never ever use Gas sold from an ARCO, Costco, Safeway, or Fred Meyer. The last time I put ARCO gas in a car it knocked horribly. My fiancee's mom constantly puts ARCO or Safeway gas in her 2005 Camry LE and it always has a knock. Just for the sake of curiosity, we drove her car once and I filled it up with Chevron. Guess what? The knock disappeared...atleast for that tank. :) |
USA Gasoline.

i've never even heard of those gases. you should start a poll of ppl's favorite gas
|
Go for it ssqpolo. I think that would be interesting.
As for me I've post whored enough for one day. :D |
I've never had horrible experiences with any gas per se, but I do hear of ARCO having a bad rep.

I wouldn't recommend putting diesel or ethanol in your tank.
:icon18: Seriously, as long as you put premium, it should be good to go. If you do come across crappy gas, fill it with the good stuff as quick as possible. I was kidding about the ethanol, but many gas co's are putting up to 10% Ethanol. I'd prefer not putting any in, but even co's like Chevron where I filled up yesterday puts up to 10% Ethanol in their mix. Shell has been advertising a Nitrogen enriched formula..WTF? Nitrogen is the most abundent gas in the atmosphere..as in 78%. Who the hell are they trying to fool here? If it burns, it's already in a 78% environment. Last I checked Nitrogen isn't flamable, so enriching gas with Nitrogen seems like it would lower the combustibility and reduce power. Now if they said they have been adding NOS, well that's a different story, but I'm not sure how they can add a gas like NOS and keep it in solution. Not to mention it would also invalidate just about any warranty I could imagine. -ZCarGo- |
^--- Why would they add a brand, to their gas?
(NOS is a brand, nitrous is what you mean :-p ) |
They're up to 20% ethanol around here now. Biggest problem with ethanol is that it absorbs water which can lead to corrosion or poor ignition. It takes a while so it really isn't a problem unless the car is sitting for months ... like many cars up in the North-East here do in the winter time.
An no, Nitrogen is not flammable. Nitrous oxide isn't flammable either for that matter, but it does contain a lot of oxygen which will increase the burn efficiency of a fuel and because it leaves the bottle so cold will drop the temperature of the charge. I have no idea what the Shell nitrogen enriched fuel supposedly does. They might be using the nitrogen to help "clean up" as it will have a tendency to bond to other elements at high temperatures. So if anyone knows which suppliers have the lowest ethanol content in the North-East please let us know. |
