But I'm sure they up sold the car. The fee is there no matter what! No business in the universe would sell something and lose money. If you paid by CC and the fee was say $1000, then you paid $1000 more than what you could have paid. It may not be so black and white because a dealer will make money on hold back, kick backs, inventory volume, incentives to push a car, rebates etc etc you'll never see or know about. Unless your dad or something owns the dealership and pulls out all stops we'll never no a true price. And then it's still different for dealers with different volumes.

I'll share my deal with you all.
I traded my 03 G35 w/140k in at Nissan. They gave me 5k for it, I owed 8k, I put 5k down and 3k obviously went to pay off the rest. The other 2k went toward my downpayment on the Z. $380 month /72 months $24k financed at 4.9% I plan to pay it off in 3 years. Making payments in large chunks. 3-5k when I can.

Bought my 09 for 23.5 plus TTL.
Put down 3k cash. Payments at 419 for 5 years. at 3.3% interest or very close! I have paid extra on it here and there but were more worried about extra on our home first!

Monthly = $372 (72 months)
APR = 3.5% Total = $24k Money Down = $4k (trade in of Nissan Versa with a year to go on note) Location = Central Florida Again, my info skews the run because I bought my Z used, as opposed to a lot of people who drive it new off the lot. I generally prefer to buy used, that way I'm not really missing out on much, and I avoid the initial value hit that all cars have going off the lot. And yeah, 72 months is a long time, but it lets me have the nice low payment (which, by the way, is only $12 more a month then my initial payments for the Versa). But, like a lot of people on here, I throw extra money at it every month to help beat down the principle.

2013 Nismo (fully loaded)
Price: $44k Down: $3k Interest: 7% Monthly: $850 I could have negotiated a better price but f*ck it, I was excited to get the car. I bought the car knowing that I was getting a bonus from work this winter so the extra interest was worth getting it a season early. Now I am going to refinance and put $10k down on it. |

Sorry guys but this thread just re-instates my assumptions on 'muuricans.
3k down on a 45k car? I could not sleep at night if I did that. Maybe it's the way I was raised by my parents but I don't buy something unless I can buy it outright (exception of a house of course). I would much rather wait a year or two and save up the money. I guess there is a benefit of living in the moment and pretending to "have" money. Impresses the neighbours, girls, etc. Sure you can tell me I could die tomorrow and never get to experience these things but I personally can't justify it. I shake my head when I see a for sale thread with a car with 10k in mods and the seller states he has a loan on the car... |
