LOL - Look at how "our" language has changed over time. English was spoken and written completely differently 100 years back and even more so before that. Do you run around using "thous" and "arts"? I dont reckon you do

Language evolves just like everything else - so if today you find more than 50% of the folks saying / doing something one way which you might think is "wrong" (read: different from what you are used to) - you can bet than soon enough (eventually) that will be considered correct - no matter how much you are angered by it. So sit back and chill man - eventually we will reduce language to a handful of words "eat / sleep / **** / **** / drive"

Till that day comes - ill be a-waiting

The things that really need to be communicated don't require words.

"But the English language had deteriorated into a hybrid of hillbilly, valley girl, inner city slang, and various grunts."

While vacationing in South Carolina, my mom and I were talking (in Czech) by the pool and a local asked me if I spoke "American"

Is there something I missed?

I still remember the joke about some man standing in line at the bank and a hispanic said something in spanish. He blew up on the guy, telling him about how when he was in another country (America), he needed to speak their language instead of expecting them to speak his and how he and his kind had taken his country over, etc.

About that time, the man behind him said something in a foreign language to his wife about the man in front of them blowing up on the new immigrant. The man whirled around and said "WTF language is THAT!?". To which, the man calmly replied "Cherokee."

It was a roll over, no damage to the frame though, only reason the insurence company wrote it off is cuz the damage was more then it was worth... any questions OP?

Please direct your attention to the following... I think many people can agree on the dichotomy you are refering to

I used to get the same comments and dirty looks from people when I was 20 and bought a 2 year old Saab 9-3... I saw it as a compliment that they figured a 20 year old was not capable of achieving something like that... I assumed (and this may not be true, but my assumption at the time) that they made such judgements because they couldnt achieve such lengths when they were 20... IMO
Very true, it certainly takes much more integrity to admit fault and to completely accept responsibility. I didn't mean to come off as attacking and disecting your post by the way, I was only venting a bit in general so my apologies to a fellow Saab guy!

I guess the way people look at you is relative; I first started driving in Greenwich CT and I couldn't count how many kids at my high school trash talked my '96 Saab. I enjoyed having a car that I could say I completely owned, built, and maintained on my own coin and felt that people gave me more respect because of that. Driving the Z on the other hand, I feel like I am seen as a spoiled rich kid (even though I paid for a large percentage of it) but oh well!

Oh no offence ever taken, my fellow Saab-enthusiast. My family is a bunch of saab-nuts... my dad has a Viggen and a 07 9-3, I have my 9-3 for winter and had a 900 and a 9000... These cars are a pleasure to drive if maintained properly, and the older 900's and 9000's definitely needed a lot of coin! (or maybe it just seemed that way in highschool). Regardless, I look forward to the dirty looks I will undoubtedly get in the summer in the Z, just take them as backhanded compliments, IMO
