You will still want to have fun when you are 30, have kids, and an SUV! Maybe you can just play golf instead?. But I am 40, lots of kids, huge mortgage, career up the arse, wife stays home, and driving my Z is definatley fun and takes some of the pain from leaving a nice warm wife in bed every morning at 4:30 and going off to the salt mine for a ten hour day.

I can understand your frustration, at 31, I had to earn everything I have on my own, school, home, and my beautiful car. For some people like us, we had to work hard and make sacrifices to get what we want- more so than that 17 year old that youre referring to. But you know what, I guarantee you that the feeling of accomplishment and pride will not be felt by that 17 year old, which makes owning the Z more meaningful and fulfilling.

I can agree with that. I busted my arse to get my degree, land my job, and now I work 12-hour shifts and save a good deal of my paycheck towards a nice vehicle. I do feel that I will appreciate it more than someone who was given a vehicle, because I feel like I "made" it, in a sense. Not with my hands or knowledge, but that I did something to bring it into my life, and that makes me proud.

Marketing, a Honours Economics degree and I am entering into an Advance Quantitative Econometrics Post Graduate (MA) program, so I have been working as a teaching assistant and research assistant at McMaster University for the last four years saving up for the 370.

I started saving up for this so long ago that originally I wanted a 350. If you read my post properly, I alienate kids (minors) that get their cars bought for them, not those that work hard and save up. Please don't single me out just because you didn't have the grades to work within your faculty as an undergrad or even have the grades to get work right out of school.

The point I was making that rich brats that get their cars handed to them don't appreciate them as much as the people who worked for them.

Aside: if 15 years ago you graduated as an engineer, you must be 37-38, and you are only driving a 370z? you must not be very good at your job =(
Young Radek, Your last comment just proves you are, in fact, just a kid. And no nothing of the world, other than what you have read in your school books. I graduated with honors from U Michigan in Aerospace Engineering, and I have worked at Boeing as a propulsion engineer for 15 years now, including the F22 program and new commercial airplane programs. My current job is Principal Investigator of propulsion technology. It took me to age 40 to afford this car, because I have saved hundreds of thousands, support a family of 5, I am putting my spouse through graduate school, and I have other interests such as motorcycles and traveling in Europe. You are a silly child who has blown your whole wad on a car you can only afford because your parents are still feeding you Gerbers. You are in my view, exactly what you are complaining about of others.

^ he makes a good point. Family and a house are way more expensive than a car. i know a guy that owns several corvettes porsches and whatnot and races and all that and spends a ton of money on cars. He says he chose cars over having kids (he has no kids), and he thinks he made the wrong choice. Just some perspective.

I don't pretend for a second i would have bought my Z if my parents weren't still letting me live with them. The reason 'm living with them is to help me save more money for a house and not have to be stuck putting 5% down with a huge mortgage that will take me forever to pay off. if someone is living at home to 'save' money but spending all that money on cars, then that is dumb. but if they are living at home, and want a car, and decide to get a sports car instead of an economy car, whats the big deal? you guys make it sound like its 30-40k for the car out of nowhere. its not.

if you need a car, and you want something new but practical you're going to be spending anywhere from 15-25k. lets take an altima for example. if a kid is living at home, and bought an altima i wouldn't go up to them and say 'DUDE WTF why are you wasting all your money on safe family sedans you dumb kid!' no of course not. but they spend 10k more on a Z and all of a sudden its like OMG. yes a Z does cost 30-40k OTD, but its only 10-15k more than some other, more practical car they might have been considering. and 10-15k if someone is living at home, working a good job, saving MOST of their money, may set them back only a few months in terms of being able to save enough money to move out. so whats the big deal?

There are plenty of worse ways to waste money then on cars. I for one, thing paying a ton of rent every month just to say you don't live at home is a waste of money. my brother is a prime example. he has been so adamant about not living home since he left for college, and he never moved back. meanwhile, he's paying 1900 a month for a small 1 bedroom in manhattan. he has saved less than 15% of what i have saved, living at home, making less money than him, and owning a Z. so no, i can't say i have 'moved out' so i guess i'm not an 'adult.' However, when i do move out, i know for sure i won't be having to come back. where as i don't know what kind of place he is going to buy with his savings. or, maybe i should move out now, and waste money on paying rent every month? or maybe buy a place that i will want to move out of in 3 years and waste 50% of my monthly payment on mortage interest and taxes on a house i dont want, so i can prove to the world that i'm independent. there's PLENTY of people i know that have moved out b/c they are too independent to live at home. then they move back when they are 26 because they have no savings and can't afford to buy anything. so who is more 'independent'? the person who lived at home till they were 24-25 and buys their own place, or the person who lived elsewhere and at 26 can't afford to buy a place because they were too concerned with having their mature independent friends come over to have pretentious, wine and cheese parties and talk about how mature they are.

Definitely of the same opinion as you. Other than when I lived for Japan I never paid rent (no choice in Japan). I am of the feeling that renting is just like throwing your money away which is why (other than when I lived in Japan for a while) I lived with my dad until I saved up enough money to buy a house. I bought my Z shortly after that (just as I turned 25).

If I was driving a shitty car I probably would have gotten the Z first but honestly even with little power the 2006 Subaru impreza 2.5i (non turbo) had enough kick and handled great so I wasn't in a huge hurry to get the Z as that would have delayed me getting the house.

You know... I agree.. thats why later I posted that I can afford this car only because I live at home, you may have missed that fine detail...

Also I would like to add that I live at home because I will be entering into grad school next year and only plan on moving out once I am in a stable position after graduation...

And finally... as you had pointed out my ignorance about your personal life, your other interests and supporting your family of five... I did not in fact blow my entire "wad" on this car as I have 2 positions within my faculty and in the summer have a lucrative job with ACTRA (SAG is the US equivalent) doing commercials that pay rather well.

I have no interest to enter into a **** measuring contest with an Aerospace engineer, but sir your ignorant opinion of me is no more valid than my ignorant opinion of you.

I only ever originally posted my frustration about a general idea which was bothering me and you condescendingly told me that I am a "kid" and am part of the demographic I am complaining about... telling me how you, a graduate of a top engineering firm could not even get a Z and how fortunate I am. Well, if I put in the hard work to get into a University, hard work to stay there, hard work to pay for all this myself, buy my car and still have money to enjoy, I think that is smart money management, prioritization, sacrifice and determination.

Sir, I will apologize for my ignorance, bias and assumption that I can vent an idea and frustration on the internet without being singled out, and I will admit you have accomplished more than I have. I have no idea what it is like to support myself a family or put someone through school. IF your kids are all as smart as you, you sir will one day have quite the responsibility of paying a lot of tuition and that I do not envy, but do admire.

I cannot defend my actions but can only ask to end this argument, I was and still am under pressure of exams and applications to grad school, so my reply was out of stress and lack of sleep... and as we all know fighting on the internet is like the special Olympics, win or lose, you're still retarded (not YOU, its just a joke I heard a while back)
