Trade-in for a Cayman S. :)
Well, I think I am approved by Porsche at 2.9%. Now I just need to take one day and decide if I should pull the trigger. :)
decisions..decisions....decisions. Grrrrrrr! :( I have a base, black, manual, 25k miles, Rays wheels, non dings/scratches, garages, and was offered $22.5k by the Nissan dealer. Do you guys think 22.5k is reasonable? Nissan wants to keep the Rays. I am pulling out my stereo, front BIg brakes, sways, coilovers, and Nismo Exhaust (if I can find someone quickly who wants to upgrade). UPDATE: As I anticipated, this thread has turned into a Porsche-Nissan comparo. :) It is all good and healthy. In the end, we all love cars. Enjoy the reading :) :) :) |
Do what makes you happy? In the end you're paying for it. :tiphat:

We all pay one way or another. :)
I just need to know if $22.5k is reasonable. I can go to CarMax obviously but If someone already knows that appraisals are standard, that would be one less variable for me. Thx. |
$22.5 is very low. Very low. My 2009 PG 6MT touring/sport 15k miles was just valued at $33k. I think that's high, but you see my point.

What I do to estimate the value is check Edmunds TMV, KBB then surf around Auto Trader to see what comperable ones are really going for. Obviously lean on the high side as a seller if you can and have a nice car. Selling private you'll get more money, just depends on how long you want to wait.

sorry... i just do not approve of your move. no comment from me...

Actually, this is somewhat contradictory as you already made your comment by stating your disapproval. :). I am cool with it. It looks like karma here: Nissan just called and they said that they couldn't finish the oil chg service, etc and they are keeping the car til Monday. And I was planning on pulling out my mods tonight. :) |

Why the S. Why not the R? |

ps, The Z is still awesome and great for its value. Who knows? After a good breakfast tomorrow, I may say "screw Porsche." btw Porsche rate is 1.9% for the 911 series. You guys should go and buy your X'Mas gift. Cheers! |
That is not a great trade in value. But the APR for the cayman is very good.
I don't know about you, but cars are one of my guilty pleasures (probably the most expensive guilty pleasure I have. I mean, could I really spend 30k on cigars? Golf clubs? Tools for my workshop?) So if you want the Cayman, get the Cayman. Car and Driver rated the 2011 as one of the top 20 cars of the year, and the best sports car under 100k. They also have the heads up their arse's, but that's for another thread. |

That info is cool. And I am personally cool with it --- after all, I still own a Z. :tiphat: I have been around long enough to know that "someone will always smoke someone." Heck, I don't even try to race any Civics; for all I know, they have tricks underneath. If I wanted to smoke someone, I probably would have bought the Corvette last week at $1,000 over invoice. |
hey it's your money do what you can live with. to each his own..
i couldn't do it but that's me. the interest rate is good though... what about the upkeep on the porsche vs the 370 say over a 24 month period? sounds like you will take a good hit on the after market parts you will remove also.. |
Dont do it

the porsche options are super expensive though. I went to the porsche website and built a car for fun and was amazed of how much they charge for the options.

2.9 is cool though. get TechArt upgrades.... |

Never drove the 2.9. If 2.9 is cool, I wonder how 3.4 would be???:stirthepot: |
no no.. i mean 2.9%
|
OP: A new purchase, at a great rate makes a poor financial decision. Stick with your Z and two years pay down.
|
2010 vette 0% interest.
|
do it...new cayman s is faster and better handling than the z...23.5k would be a good trade in value...sell me your coils if u do :) lol
|
I got 26K trade-in for mine but was the Touring and they kept all the mods. At first they wanted to give me about 23K and we argued for an hour and a half just on the trade in. They really wanted to sell that last 2010 vette on their lot that had been ther for a few months. So some arguing might help, even walk out too.

I am alreay making a list of my mods. The only one unused is the EVO-R fog light. The coils will definitely be sold. I was really disappointed that my car stayed at the dealer today. I could have used today and tomorrow as my 'uninstall' time/dates. But then again, I see the lost as a gain to be used as "cooling off" period. |

The Manager told me that they can order a 2011, if I wanted. My first sports car love was the Stingray. Never did buy one, though. Maybe in 10 years when it 'fits me'. Why did you sell you Z? You can PM me if needed. BTW, today in speaking with the Nissan salesman, he said that for some reasons, the Z aren't selling anymore (or as quick as before). Their convertibles are even discounted $8,000.00. He is not sure if it is the economy or the car itself. On the Porsche side, I saw a list that salespeople use --- a lot of cars are staying in the lot for longer than expected. |
It's across the board; while I was test driving the Porsches (gads, SWEET cars - they're just so right), the salesmen didn't really outright say that sales weren't up to snuff, but you could get the gist; especially after I frowned at the prices I'd pay new.
|
I don't want to jump the gun, but man....... the Cayman's gearbox is like heaven!
To all other readers, please note my thread is not meant to start a comparison. After all, I haven't given Porsche my John Hancock. Quote:

I've been contemplating a new cayman s too but my Z sports is only 11 months old , not ready to give it up yet. A new S with taxes would be around $70k I could get two Zs with that money. Dollar for dollar I think a Z is a Better value.
I might just get a couple years old S for around $40k and save about $25k. It's very tempting. |

Cab, one of the reasons you're getting low balled on the offer price is the same reason vettes and caymans are suddenly reasonable.
It's the season. It's harder to move a sports car, especially RWD, in winter. All the same, you only live once. If you can live with the huge financial ding and are happier with a porsche, then why not? |
 I'll approve its still porsche
|
The Cayman is the one car that would tempt me into a trade. I've seen quite a few 06-08 Cayman S's with under 20K miles going for mid-30's, and '09 and later base Caymans (2.9 Engine, 265 HP) in the low 40's. Even though the base model is down on power, I think I would lean to the later and get a newer model ('09 and after), since Porsche has addressed the problems they were having with the RMS and intermediate shaft. The Caymans are seriously good cars.
