dealer oil change

if i bring my own oil and filter will a dealer put it in/on? specifically fontana nissan as i think i will be going there to get my service done.. anyone know?

Trips 12-10-2010 09:06 PM

Yes, as long as the oil meets or exceeds Nissans requirements? Fontana's one of the if not best dealers in SoCal for Service.

Dreezy562 12-10-2010 09:25 PM

yeah im planning on going with redline. thanks tripz

Pharmacist 12-11-2010 12:08 AM

Why not change it yourself and save $$$? Or at least take it to a cheaper independent mechanic

seungklee 12-11-2010 01:33 AM

change it yourself, so damn easy, I did it.

My dealer uses my oil filter and oil I bring. I know i should do it my self but my dealership is really nice to me and they have not messed up any thing yet!

Dreezy562 12-11-2010 08:02 AM

Well, I don't know your situation, but I got creative. Drove up on a little knoll in the yard, etc. That sort of thing. 2 Trans Ams, a mustang 5.0, and other cars, and I never messed with a jack. I don't trust them after watching one let go and come down on my grandpa when I was a kid. yeah, his fault for not using safety jacks, but images like that just stick with you. Fortunately, only a few cracked ribs.

kenchan 12-11-2010 12:49 PM

Ramps are safe if used correctly with wheel chocks.

wow. i am impressed.
there's a co-worker who's into cars and had done an oil change on his 350z. later he told me would not do it himself again because it was too tough. he said the car was too low for him to work on.

VCuomo 12-11-2010 03:57 PM

OP - why not use your cellphone and call Fontana Nissan's Service Department and just ask them?

He's not into cars enough. Get the right tools.

This is super easy. I understand if you are really busy and not into cars, but there should be no fear to change oil! :ugh2:

sonic370 12-12-2010 06:55 PM

i bring my own oil and filter. dealer charges 15.00
plus they say they do a complete inspection. and a car wash.
for now i trust em

optiontrader 12-12-2010 08:38 PM

Mossy Nissan here in SD, the express services treats me good. It's $70, but to do it yourself w/Ester, don't the kits run $50 or so?

45 minutes, and I get to surf in the customer lounge - oil/filter change w/Ester and a badly needed car wash. The underbody neatly buttoned back up, oil level RIGHT at the "H" mark, AND they even reset the maintenance warning (checked when I got home).

I love being a grease monkey (the Honda's the hobby car), but call me lazy: I think I'm doing this dealer oil change for quite some time. :icon17:

n370zpg 12-12-2010 10:02 PM

free oil changes for life at my dealership. They also use the higher grade ester oil too! barring they don't change it with baseball bats, i think i'll give it a go this week. what do you guys think?

Dreezy562 12-12-2010 11:52 PM

higher grade ester oil? whats it called?

chops 12-13-2010 12:14 AM

sigh..how do you guys voluntarily let them wash (mar) your car? ahhh automatic car washes are no bueno!

When I used to take my Mazdaspeed3 to the dealer for service, the guy at the front desk always said "we skipped washing it because we would have made your car dirtier than you brought it in".
Classic!

ive worked with my PDR trainer years ago at an audi dealership where the porter ran a brand new A4 through the nylon brush wash and broke off the antenna on the roof + bending the surrounding metal. :ugh2:

we were asked by the dealer to PDR the roof asap before the customer found out wat happened. i was like  and the dealer asked 'ken, you can't fix it? :icon14: ' and i was like 'i can fix the roof, but you guys still have an nylon brush autowash??!! WTF! :ugh2: "

Mine was pretty clean, no damage or swirl marks when I got it back.

I think next oil change I'll wash the car first and ask for no car wash there; probably ask to check the machine out too.

Waiz 01-05-2011 08:59 PM

Other than Fontana don't bother taking it to a dealership.

They will just steal your oil and put the cheap crap instead LOL

Dreezy562 01-06-2011 09:13 AM

Lol waizzz. I figured that's the case!! Thanks for answering scott

I don't know about taking your oil. But I know for a fact that some shady dealerships will use lower grade oil even when you pay for synthetic. Just do it yourself that way you know it's done right.

TongMan 01-06-2011 09:45 AM

You must be pretty lazy or handicapped if you do not change your own oil.

Dreezy562 01-06-2011 12:34 PM

Id rather pay 9 bucks than lay on my back unscrewing 15 screws.. and like I had said. I dont have any ramps.. also this way ill be in the system for any future warranty issues

kenchan 01-06-2011 01:57 PM

i would rather do the work than letting the dealer mash up the rails on the lift, "detail" the car afterwards by mistake even though i tell then NO WASH, later finding im missing a couple of screws from the bottom cover, and also finding they overfilled the oil.

Waiz 01-06-2011 02:52 PM

Sandro, I took my own oil to a shop in Redondo Beach and they charged me $20 or so.

If you don't want to drive too far I can give you their info and they are super reputable

if my local dealerships charged 9 bucks + my own oil/filter, i would gladly let them do it too!

Dreezy562 01-06-2011 06:38 PM

I have the sports package and bought the Rhino Ramps and the Z still couldn't clear the ramps.

I have to go to Home Depot and bought a couple of blocks of woods. It's a pain.

Scott@FontanaNissan 01-06-2011 07:20 PM

We have a GT-R lift in our shop...you can drive straight on. We even have a local customer with a "Herra-Frush" setup and we drive it right on without issues ;)

Always happy to help out whenever we can ;)

I also stock Motul Fluids if you ever need them!
