a number of years ago, there was a new story on abc (i believe it was on 20/20 but not sure). they did a test about how people would react to other people based upon the car that they drove. they had this lady acting like she had car problem with an ordinary car and then with a mercedes SL.

people would stop and help her with the ordinary car but they would just pass by her when she drove the mercedes SL.

Yah i also remember seeing some documentary where good looking girls got asked if thy needed help where as a fat middle aged woman was left roasting in the sun. :D

It always pays to be in shape and take care of yourself.

My Z has 500 miles on the odo, it's 2 weeks old. Some POS hit my back bumper in a parking lot and didn't leave a note.

I guess the good news is that the damage is very minor. There is a half inch horizontal gouge in the bumper, and some minor marks I think that I'll be able to buff out. I think I can somehow smooth out the gouge, and with some touch-up paint it'll look perfect from a foot or two away.

It just sucks that the car is still brand new, and I haven't had it long enough to not care about it. It bugs the hell out of me just thinking about it!

yep, never fails. all dd's ive owned the last 10+yrs were all damaged in the parking lot. almost all of them were damaged (key'ed, backed into, massive door dings, things stolen off of it, shopping cart ding, etc.) within the first 3months of ownership.

the one i have now was damaged in a minor fender bender, the other one has small scrape marks and curbage on the wheels from wife letting the valet park downtown.

it pays to have beaters imho. one less thing to worry about.

You'd think a Lexus owner would be more careful! Maybe they were rushing home to put a big red bow on it to give to their wife for a holiday gift because they cheated on her and gave her VD.

Just a theory.

You are likely correct -- being a professor and all.

And yes, you are paranoid! But are you paranoid enough?

OMFG THIS!. I had have had this happen to me before. In about a 12 car parking all the slots were open when I parked. When I leave this *** whipe parks diagonally into the spot directly next to me with the front of his car about 4-5 inches from mine. He was so close I could *barely* get in as I am a big guy (6 ft, 300 pounds).

I was soo F*#%KING pissed. I wrote him a nasty note on his windshield I mean wtf?

Oh and about 5 times a month on my way to work some *** hat merges into my lane turning on to 8th St. In down-town L.A. 8th street is one way when I am turning on it from Francisco St. after getting off the 110 NB at the 9th street exit. Since 8th is a one-way street in this area I am in the right lane (turning left) usually because there is nobody in that lane and because the entrance into the building I work at is on the right *right* after the first light I hit on 8th street.

Even though both lanes are turn lanes a lot of times people in the left lane like to be in the farthest most right lane when they are done turning (my lane). I have had to go hard on my breaks and honk a good 4-5 times per month when this happens. I am extremely aware of people doing this now because it has happened soo many times so I wouldn't say I am in danger of getting in an accident simply because I am super careful when turning onto 8th now but this is lame as hell. I wish people would learn how to drive!

man, you're pretty literate in direction for a houkouonchi. lol :icon18:

was expecting more like i turn right then left over there and then another left and right and then up.

ProfessorDave 12-14-2010 10:59 AM

The commute from Ontario to L.A. must be killer!

Well I know exactly how to get there because I drive that way *EVERY* day. You better believe I got lost several times when I first started making that commute and I totally get ******* lost if the exits I normally take are closed or a freeway I normally take is closed.

Once I missed the 9th street exit and the 6th street exit was closed (only a mile from work) and it took me 40 minutes to get to work from the next exit I got off of (no joke). I really need to get a GPS unit but I am not sure of a good place to mount one where I can still see all my gauges.

Don't even get me started about when I lived in Japan. OMFG the addressing system in Japan is so freaking retarded its not even funny. And I thought I got lost in the U.S. it isn't even funny how lost I got in Japan. Luckily I didn't drive since I lived in Shibuya-ku near Tokyo (even though I had my international drivers permit) so it wasn't as bad as missing streets and stuff when driving but yeah... I got so lost there.

I work nights (10 PM to 8 AM) 4 days a week so its not that bad. I live right off the 60 free way (its on the border of pomona, ontario, chino) and thus its only about 40 miles one way. Since I work during non-peak hours it takes me about 35 minutes to drive in and about 40-45 minutes (depending on traffic) to get back.

EDIT: ProfessorDave I see that you are in Stranton, PA. Ontario, California -> Los Angeles is usually considered a pretty bad commute if you gotta do it during normal peoples shift but I realized you might have thought Ontario, CA was Ontario, Canada which of course would be ridiculous but being in PA you might not realize there is a city called Ontario decently close to L.A.
