can't believe this happened!

I was at Target today doing a little shopping so when i got back to my 370
i noticed a white GT-R about 3 rows over. and the owner was walking around his car showing it to a friend of his. so i figured as i drove by i would show some respect and say something about his car. so in jest nothing smart xss
i said be carefull it will get away from you. and his reply was i bet it will get away from you as, he pointed at my car....duh no crap....

i was just trying to pay this guy a complement and he goes off....
sorry to ramble it just caught me of gaurd.......

frost 12-08-2010 06:46 PM

"i said be carefull it will get away from you"

I would have probably taken that as you telling me I don't know how to drive, and said something smartass in return.

Well, to play devil's advocate, maybe he has heard that line from a lot of people and is tired of it. My last name is shared by several well-known famous people, and is spelled and pronounced phonetically. Yet, people insist on spelling and pronouncing it wrong. I am snappier about it than I should be, simply because it's the billionth time and I've had it.

Basically, you complimented his car by telling him he couldn't control something that powerful unless he took extra care. I can see where he felt like you were being a ****. Not that you were, he just got the meaning of your words different than you intended them. Similar to when I tell someone "You look nice today" and they shoot back "So I looked bad on other days?"

370zdub 12-08-2010 07:03 PM

Ya if someone said to me "careful it will get away from ya" I would be a smart *** too

LuckyJinx 12-08-2010 07:09 PM

Next time just say that he has a nice car, people say this to me everyday and I say thanks.

agree^^ and also, you have to be a colossal dumb@$$ to let a gtr "get away from you", it pretty much drives itself :driving:

FERRARI 12-08-2010 07:13 PM

be glad that he didn't say " You don't have to worry about that happening to you.....do you" and smiling.....lol

370zdub 12-08-2010 07:15 PM

^^lol

nogoodname 12-08-2010 07:18 PM

In Russia, GTR drives you not you drive GTR.

Should of said something else lol... I'm sure most of us here would agree it sounded more like an insult to the guy.

sonic370 12-08-2010 07:20 PM

i agree with all of you. maybe it did come out wrong but i was smiling when i said it. and meant it as a complement to his car not about his driving skills..

lesson learned.... leave GT-R guys alone.. i won't park by'em anymore it makes the 370 look like a vw...! not really............

There's nothing wrong with parking next to them. Most guys in the gtr prefers it. The Z is he GTR's little brother. Just watch how you approach them. You're talking to a human being not the car haha.

Next time......just say "I will trade my Beautiful Car for your Ugly one" lol

ProfessorDave 12-08-2010 07:32 PM

I always stick with either "I like your ...." or "how do you like your ...?" Never sure someone has the same sense of humor as me. Otherwise, I'd be saying things like "What is a Gee-T-eR? Is that you? Do you play for the Yankees?!"

I actually like how the 370Z sits when next to a GT-R. The 370Z sits lower/looks sleeker (to me). Besides, there is less fear of a door-ding from someone who isn't into the Z cars.

Reread this.

I did, did I make some dumb grammatical error that I am not seeing?

What I meant was, I am sure a GT-R owner would rather have a Z next to him than say, a Camaro/Mustang, etc. as there is (probably) more good blood between the Z and GT-R owner than otherwise.

Original post was implying that drivers don't own a z would be more careful than a person who does own one. I agree with the parking too.

I'm not seeing it, guys. When a Z is next to a GTR, there is less fear of a door ding from someone who isn't into the Z cars. Why? Because they aren't there. A Z-car owner is. Makes perfect sense.

If I wasn't into Z cars then I wouldn't care if I dinged his side, but if I was into those cars then i'll be careful.

you should have said, "whats the retail on one of those?"

ProfessorDave 12-08-2010 08:24 PM

I don't know any GT-R owners personally. I thought they were all serious car guys. Of course, I also think a giant bunny delivers eggs to my kids every spring, so I suppose I could be wrong.

When I started this post I had a point...

i know a LOT of GTR owners and most of them are really cool (MC and Juno/FL 4Motion on this forum for example) but there are a few who don't aren't into the community and those are the ones who are pretty stuck up from my experience

Pocket change lol

Jeffblue 12-08-2010 08:32 PM

why do people think they can jokingly insult someone they don't know and the person wont be offended because in the first person's mind, they have something desirable (possession, trait etc)?

if you go up to a really hot girl with a really nice body and say 'Hey you are really fat hahaha' she's not gonna be like 'omg i know right i'm so hot tee hee let me do you.' she'd slap you, or start crying, or have her boyfriend kick your ***.

i'm a good guitar player. i've had people that i'm not really friends with come up to me and be like 'damn you really suck!' trying to kid around, and i'm not really that full of myself, so i find it offensive. unless that GTR guy goes around thinking he is the **** b/c of his car, he'd probably be offended and respond with a snide remark and think you're a ****. if some random person in a civic came up to me in my car and was like 'damn that thing is SLOW' i would be like 'fuck you dude, and fuck your car'

I went up to a guy in a Porsche and was like "Rofl, you're gonna wind up crashing into a wall at 120mph, killing you and your wife, leaving your kids to fend for themselves."

He got pissed, which I thought was weird, because I was obviously complimenting his awesome Porsche.

Knew a guy you should have said this to. Because he killed himself, and injured his kid trying to show off what his Boxster could do.

Just because people have a right foot doesn't mean they know how to use it (and to lighten the mood, given my dark post: That's What She Said)
