I called BS. She gave me a ride to prove it. Apparently at a 70 punch, there is about 500rpm difference between 4th and 5th in that car, lol. Either way, took her for a ride in the WS6 and she seemed impressed with the torque and said it felt faster, however, no telling how much of that was just her being polite, etc. By the numbers, her car should make short work of me. Then again, other cars that should have done the same didn't, either (new Camaro SS supposedly traps 110+ in good hands. From a roll, I never had one leave me). The only time I ever tried anything in the G20, it was a new camaro SS, and I tried to hang in the corners. Bad call. The back tires slid around and I looked a fool. Ironically, a 350Z was behind me and slowed down to gawk. It was dark, but I am sure I got the "WTF dumbass!?" look for attempting to keep pace with the Camaro. No harm, no foul, late at night, just my pride got hurted : ( |

yea the 997 C4S makes about the same hp (granted not torque, that's probably the "it feels faster" comment) with a lot less weight and better traction so yea, i'd say it should have been an nose or so faster through most of a 1/4 drag

Put yourself in that position. It's a bit of an awkward thing to say. The GT-R owner could have been to 50 different track days and replaced his job with a track membership for his retirement. Or he could have just gotten the car and was a little self-conscious about it.
If I had been the GT-R owner I probably would have responded negatively as well. I don't take kindly to anyone, even someone JOKING, about how I drive, or play guitar, or do just about anything. Plus, you can never tell when someone really has an underlying meaning behind what they're saying, implying that they truly are a better driver or that you're incapable of driving that automobile. It can easily make a lot of people upset and that could lead to poor decisions. I usually just say "hey, nice car" or something along the lines. Just be glad he didn't go all fast and furious on you like these previous posters are doing lol.

I just don't say anything because I could give a shit if they "like it" or what they "think about it". Plus they already know they drive a nice car so why bother telling them?
I usually just drive by and if I really like the car, say something like, "great car, I just bought my wife one". |

i dont think ive gone one day driving it in 2 years without someone coming up to me... but i usually talk to every person for a long time lol... ive met such a wide variety of interesting people.... my run ins are usually real late at night at like a gas station or something and ive good some good stories... my fav is a guy told me "i must keep them dope sacks" i said something like that man smiled and drove off..... i know so many random people around town now its crazy
i think if your a GTR or kind of like an import enthusiast guy it makes a big difference... if your a rich older guy who got it just to get it you might get a different reaction..... i dont think its a big deal having one... i drive it to mcdonalds or the grocery store everyday and and 2 years later people still freak out ..but its not a big deal to me i dont like to leave it parked for a long time or drive it certain places...but thats not because i think its so high and mighty i just know how people are and dont want someone messing with it now i might be a little more particular about my black edition but that will probably wear off by the fall... but i have heard about one ******* GTR owner..... about a year ago my mom was walking into a restaurant and she sees a guy getting out of one.. she walks up and says thats a beautiful car my son has a black one and its really fun to drive... guy stares and says whatever then walks off....... I already shared my douche-baggery on the G20 forum. Everyone there told me this thing would be trouble-free. Over the last few months it has cost me about an average of $700/mo or so to own + insurance and gas (no note, traded even). |

You can't have anything nice today it seems. I now know why rich people stick togather/live in exclusive neighborhoods, don't associate with people who don't have money. It's not because they are "high and mighty". They just get tired of having their stuff messed with, keyed, etc. |

yeah i mean alot of cars have stigmas about their owners... porsche and M3's ect... you guys know the stereotypes... but i think for the most part the GTR owner should come off kind of cool ya know maybe a little bit of a techie or something i dunno... but i think i represent it well ya know guy in his 30's into motorsports stuff like that..... at our meets it does vary in age and background a little but everyone ive ever met is cool...but then again they are coming out to meets so that tells you something right there.... you get somone who might not know the heritage as much a person that goes through cars alot and you might run into someone not really representative of the GTR community... it happens
ive had some conversation with GTRs who are more like yeah i need to datalog this or dial this in or they have like a HD camera for everything they do in it.... but thats a far cry from a tool in a pink polo shirt who double parks at target but i guess the comment about not letting it get away from you or whatever.... you never know how people will take things... i would be like yeah man i try not to or something like that but who knows what some people think the only thing i will say that makes me uncomfortable is the how much did you pay for it or where do you work or i need to be doing what your doing comments out of the blue..... i dont have a reply for them so i just kind of vaguely smile and just say yea or something... with the new one its gonna be real bad...unless most people think its my same car but with new wheels Last edited by MC; 12-09-2010 at 01:28 AM. |
