Default stick shift lever moves itself?

Hey guys, I'm new to the 370 club - just picked one up about 3 hours ago. On the drive home, I noticed that the stick shift moves a bit with the throttle. Is this normal? In other words, when in 6th on the freeway, if I let off the gas, the stick moves a bit towards neutral, almost as if it's anticipating a downshift.

Random question I know, couldn't find anything on the forum about it tho, so I thought I'd ask.

Car is a blast to drive!

yea thats normal. basically, the stick gets pushed slightly forward or backwards depending on whether you are accellerating or slowing down while the car is still in gear. i believe when you accellerate it moves towards the rear of the car (about a milimeter) and when you slow down while in gear, it moves a similar amount towards the front of the car. so yea, totally normal.

This is normal for most stick shift cars. The engines move slightly so in turn the trans and shifter move slightly as well.

I would assume an automatic does the same thing it's just under the gear shift so you can see or feel it. Maybe someone else can chime in and confirm.

That movement is caused by the little bit of give the motor mounts have which translates to movement when the engine is under load and the engine is torquing the rest of the drivetrain when throttle is given. When the throttle is released, that torquing force stops and the motor returns to its resting position.
