Go read your owner's manual. It clearly states that the warranty is void for any number of silly reasons. Dyno-testing the car, running it at ANY competative event, turning VDC off not in snow/mud, etc. etc. It's rediculous.

There is no such feature as launch control, and your owner's manual spells it out clearly. It is designed to un-stick the car from mud or snow. Not to "launch" the car. Nissan never called it launch control. People on the internet, and whatnot did and began using it as such and busting transmissions and so Nissan came out with all these disclaimers in their warranty. Again, go read the warranty disclaimer that came with the car. Turning VDC off voids trans-axle warranty.

on paper, you're absolutely right. But in real life, that has been hardly the case.

Didn't kenchan do a mod where his aftermarket GPS folded back into the cubby when not in use? Best of both worlds That is, unless you want that fabulous storage in the NAV system for your MP3s!

Yeah, Modshack made one then Kenchan came and made the JDM version.

That storage cubby was so convenient, though. Within the first 10 minutes of driving my Mustang off of Lou Fusz's lot in STL I was like, "god damnit, where's the dash cubby?"

On paper is what the dealership will refer to when you ask for a new $22K transmission + labor under warranty. They will pull the data from your PCM, and say "Oh...I see...did you read the insert that came in the car? it was right there on the passenger floorboard when you took delivery..."

I understand you might know someone, or have "an in", etc. etc. etc. but it's amazing how people back-track when $20K/their job is on the line. I wouldn't risk it.

The fact remains that there IS NO LAUNCH CONTROL. People are using a feature that was designed for one thing, as another. Nissan never stated otherwise, and that is why they are voiding the warranty. It would be like using the drive-shaft in a mustang as a winch to pull your 4-wheeler out of the mud or something. Of course it won't be warrantied. They don't warranty a car when you do "neutral drops" with a regular automatic, why should they warranty the GT-R when you do something similar?

Buy an iPhone.
Place it in Cubby.

You now have a GPS that fits in the cubby, is removable for use in other vehicles, and will tell you how much horsepower your car is making with the right app. End of quandry.

Pretty much, it won't do "skip-gear" downshifts like most DCT's or even the slush-box in an A6 vette. It has to go down through each and every gear above the gear it needs before it gets there. It won't just hop to it. Huge downside, unless of course you hardcore guys like rolling around in 4th all the time, lol.

This doesn't hurt so much on the track, but in daily driving when you want to punch it on the freeway, I can imagine it would get very frustrating.

you dont know what your talking about every year GTR has has its own revised version of Launch control you can use under full warranty with VDC in R mode

here are the facts...

2009 LC1 VDC off "original Launch control" Was a warranty issue...0-60 3.2 secs
2009 ( all owners who wanted it received TCM update to 2010 spec LC2 ) 0-60 3.5 secs
2010 LC2 3K rpm launch Manual or automode any set up switch 0-60 3.5 secs
2011 LC3 3.3k RPM launch Manual mode RRR only 0-60 3.3 secs
2012 LC4 3.5-4K RPM Manual mode RRR only 0-60 2.9 secs ( nissan released a official press release and a video that shows the car being held to 4K rpm and launched with VDC on)

im not even going to address the its automatic your pretend to drive as a manaul comment.... or the GTR drives itself comment... take it a track at 150mph and see how well it drives itself

Well, FWIW, on any highway encounter I bet you the GTR will be in the correct gear.

don't most race transmissions use sequential manual? which don't allow you to skip gears? i've seen a lot of in car footage and i they downshift through every gear.
