Daily Driver for LONG TRIPS

Hello, I am looking for a possible new car in the 370Z.

What I am wondering from you guys how own them is how you like the ride quality, the NVH, and the overall feel for long term driving.

I know most people will tell me to get a sedan or softer car, but I LOVE the Z, and I usually do not have problems with harsher riding cars.

SO. What do you guys think?

compared to your range rover its going to be a harsh ride, as long as the streets are decent you shouldn't have a problem. car seems ultra smooth to me

Cool, and actually the Rover has been given to my wife. HA, I wouldnt think it would ride the same, I HOPE NOT, the Rover is a cool car, but I need a little more speed and fun in my day, she likes the cushy cars...

I am also really anticipating the new BMW Z4, however, its not due out for quite some time, and I have never been a huge fan of Hardtop Verts.

Well thanks for your input

Also I was going to ask, you said it seems smooth. Do you have the sport pack?

iceman21_23 03-20-2009 10:57 AM

yes i have the sports package i haven't had the car that long so you may want to wait for other reviews as well. the car just feels very solid much more so then my old 350z

Car is smooth imo, only problems I have with the Z as a daily driver is obviously the lack of storage and excessive noise at times.

I use it as a daily driver, plus my work often requires me to do 200 mile round-trips, once or twice a week. Two issues:
First, obviously, no back seats.
Second, it is noisy, depending on the surface you're on, it can get pretty damn noisy. Having said that, it's not like driving an old Cobra w/ the top down at 85mph (not that I know what that's like).
I dont find the lack of storage to be that bad, it's not a huge trunk, but I dont expect to be moving furniture either. I havent tried yet, but I'm sure it will fit a few suitcases/bags.
Otherwise, the seats are comfortable, and very supportive, a little too supportive on a long trip, but good nonetheless.

I've taken my Z on a few weekend trips and it's fine. Obviously the lack of storage is a pain, but we packed a couple of soft side duffle bags and it wasn't a problem. The ride seems smooth to me for a sports car. My only gripe on the NAV is that you can't put in an address or some other info while the car is in motion like on my prior Acuras.

Thats cool man, I am not buying a 2000-3000 dollar nav system when I can get a Garmin for 300...that works whenever I want to use it, and cost 1/10th of the factory option. I made that mistake on my Rover, it was just one of those things.

Well the on-screen control display and the integration is quite sweet imo.

I have a non-sports 370, and I think the ride for long trips is rather nice. Free ways feel super smooth to me, and it's the local roads that I find to be more uncomfortable, especially if there's ANY loose gravel, because it sounds like your *** is right on it. The only issue I have is the car begging to go above 80.

i have sports package, i think the Z is great for a long trip but theres 1 flaw. If you drive on bad pavement you can HEAR it with tire roar.

I assume quieter tires you can buy.

The ride is not even close to "rough" i think the z's ride is pretty soft.

Recently took an 8 hour trip, it was just me and the Z so interior space wasn't an issue! Oh yeah, was quite pleased with the average MPG.

I have the sport/touring package and don't mind the ride at all. As has been said some road surfaces can generate a lot of noise. I'll be taking a 400 mile round trip in a few weeks. After that I'll have a better understanding of the long range comfort.

Agreed..the car really wants to idle at 80mph. I keep looking down and I'm at 90mph. Way too easy to speed.

It is noisy depending on the surface. I put on about 100miles per day. 75% Highway. If you're in the car a lot, I would highly recommend the touring package. Bluetooth is a must and provides reasonable quality depending on speed and surface. Seats are no problem for my trips.
