2 Seater Query
I wanted to see what demographic of people have the Z. Do most people use the Z as a 3rd car DD, Z for Dads DD wifey has car and then a SUV for family stuff. I have a 6 month old so I'm trying to decide if not having a backseat would be an issue. My wifey has a Mustang GT for her DD and we have a SUV as a 3rd car which we use for snow and driving baby around. Honestly I never have anyone in my backseats in my car now so realistically it makes no difference. I was curious if any of you guys made the same choice? And does it work? How old does a child have to be to sit in the Z front seat? Just curious. This aspect is my only hesitation with the Z and I really don't "want" to go Camaro SS for the seats. I'm 30 married 1 child in the burbs of Philly.

DD with a baby seat on the passenger side to pick up my daughter from the crêche.
My wife has a Volvo V70 estate as a company car with fuel paid for, so perfect match . The child has to be forward facing in the seat, so anything for a smaller baby with a backward facing seat is dangerous. I have to point out that the european model does not have the possibility of turning off the passenger airbag - the US version has a child seat detector that will automatically turn off the airbag in case of the child being sat in the seat. I'm 30 with a 15 month old daughter Last edited by ZedZed; 11-19-2010 at 12:23 PM. |

although nissan tried quite hard, this car is not practical at all compared to a normal car.
if my older kid is super good i will let him sit in the z with his recaro booster seat that i use on my other cars. got 2 little kids. wife's never been in my Z, actually. the Z's like my own personal space away from family. she doesnt care cause i buy my cars out of my pocket. like how she spends her money on her expensive purses and computer servers and such... |

Daily driver, 6-mile commute (one-way) from my home in the city to my office in the city.
I am in the oil field and previously drove a Frontier all sorts of crazy highway miles and up/down rig roads (which can be pretty bad). Kept the truck, dropped the field work. |

Selling my kid paid for the Z and removed the need for a back seat. So it was a double win.

I got lucky. I love sports cars, my wife loves family cars. I drive my Z as a DD, she drives a Subaru Legacy (with about 190K miles on it so far)

It makes no sense to consider backseats for your DD since you have the SUV and a mustang with backseats. Any kid can sit in the Z, a baby would have a backward facing baby basket. The seat can be set far away from the airbag, or just turn off the airbag. I have 3 kids who often need to be in different places at once, one can go in the Z, and two can go in the SUV, since I only have 2 parents to drive the kids, I cannot use 3 vehicles anyway, so only one needs to hold more than one child.

My wife drives a Murano, so family trips and dog transport are covered. In 5 years my wife rode in my 944 exactly once, as did my daughter (excluding her manual trans driving lessons). So, we knew going in that the Z need not be 'practical'.

I have the Z, wife has a scion tC that she loves. We have no kids, so we never really need to carry passengers anyway. And if we do for some reason, the scion has a backseat.
