Laser Jammers?
Hey All,
I currently run a Valentine 1 radar/laser detector. When it was in my 300Z it was more for that comfy feeling, I ran fast but not always. In my current 370 NISMO, I got nailed by laser this morning. Granted I was doing 10 over the limit on a freeway running steady with the rest of the traffic, however I never got looked at doing that in my 300 at that speed. I accept that if I'm running 85 - 90 on a 60mph freeway that I'm taking my chances. However, If I'm running 70ish with 70ish traffic, I don't care to be the one nailed each time by laser because I have a fast looking car. With this said, I've heard good things about the K40 laser jammer. Any opinions? Other jammers recommended? Thanks - Eddie |
laser interceptor or bust. especially if you reside in a state where laser anything is illegal

I got pulled doing 61-45 the cop walked up talking about 350z. All he wanted was to see the car. He was asking about the hp of it, and the diff between this and the 350. Gave me a warning and let me go. First time my sports car got me out of a ticket.

how about you just slow down a little? free :icon17:

I know there's a lot of legal mumbo jumbo about jammers but have you ever watched any of the test videos on youtube? It's blatantly obvious to the police officer who is beaming highway traffic. There is a video where the tester is hitting every car and then the test car comes along and he can't get a read on it at all. He then shoots cars next to it and all around getting readings instantaneously. When he tries to hit the test car again, no read. I guess you can say "it works" but I think being blatantly obvious might get you pulled over anyway. Hmmm but I guess legally, if it's not illegal in your state, and the copper doesn't get an accurate read, then there's nothing wrong with it? And then you have cops who are certified to visually measure speed. And pacing.
Here's the vid: |
At least in Illinois, it's illegal to pull a car over and search a vehicle with only suspicion of using a jammer. So if you're not doing anything else wrong, or record the cop saying he pulled you over because he either couldn't get a reading or thought you had a jammer, you're home free in court.

There is a guy in the "Maverick Region Porsche Club of America" (MRPCA) who was pulled over and ticketed for having a jammer (in his Murciélago) in Arlington. He was going to press the issue in court, since there is no law in TX specifically prohibiting the use of laser jammers. No FCC law is being violated. The dude has the financial means to see it thru. Unfortunately I sold the 944 and dropped off the MRPCA email list before this topic reached a resolution.
The advice other jammer-owners gave him: - have a quality radar/laser detector running. - have an "off" switch for the jammer close at hand - As soon as you get the detector alert and scrub off enough speed, turn the jammer off. - that way, when he checks surrounding traffic, and comes back to you (as described in the post earlier), he gets a (under-the-speed-limit) reading, and leaves you alone. None of this is from personal experience: my Passport 9500 is gathering dust in a drawer. had not decided if i want to put it in the Z or not. |
Jst an FYI for my NA brothers:
In Canada Laser jammers are only LEGAL in British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan. In the United States At this point in time, laser jammers are LEGAL in all US states, with the exception of California, Colorado, Illinois, Minnesota, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Utah, Virginia and D.C. Remember, even in states and provinces where laser jammers are prohibited, the Blinder line of products can be used for parking assistance and as garage door openers. |

jammers are illegal in California, New York, Florida, Colorado, Illinois, Minnesota, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Alaska. Either way you will get **** for having one.

Thanks for the Blinder suggestion. I'll look into it.
As for slowing down, I was slowed down, doing 70 with traffic, I was not passing cars, any slower and I'd be in 4th gear. Like I said, if I'm running 85 - 90, sure, come get me, I'm taking my chances. But to be running with traffice at the same speed as everyone else and be picked out of the line up because my car looks fast... naw, I gotta do something about that and slowing down to posted speeds so everyone can pass the Nismo is not an option. |
