Nice Zed, couldn't help notive the two trucks around your Zed, seems like the majority of Americans drive these behemoths, sad if this is the case. Sorry about your car, though it does seem like THAT could get fixed to 100% though. it is not TOO bad.

At the end of the day, insurance handles the cost of repairs and after some minor inconvenience, the piece of metal is restored to its original state or if the damage is too great, you buy another piece of metal. No need to flip out or mourn a damaged car because there's bigger things in life to worry about. On the other hand, I do remember feeling the same way as the OP when I was in my 20's and my car was my world, so I see where you're coming from.

Yes there are more important things in life- My mother in-law is fighting cancer, I just had back surgery.... However if some dumb a** on a cell phone hit my new Z, I would react in a very non mature way. Sure I would rather have an f'ed up Z than cancer, more back surgery or another 4 years of Obama. But that doesn't diminish my love for my car or the enjoyment I derive from it. To me the first tenet of defensive driving in understanding and accepting that everyone else on the road is a complete $(#*@()&@ moron and accounting for their lack of driving skill, knowledge and attention. So far this has helped me avoid the antique driving the van, the stupid teens tweeting and the couple making a 3 point u-turn in rush hour traffic. If all the idiots were taken off the road I would have no one to pass and no reason to drive a performance oriented car.

I am what one poster here referred to as an "old bag of bones" ha! I have no problem taking an exam or having my eyes and reflexes tested each year,.,,
Once I was at a stop light and the car behind me got hit..luckily he did not hit me..,he was hit from behind by some young woman apparently not paying attention.. I can still remember him putting his hands to his face and saying "Oh NO!!" and then I noticed he was driving a Lexus and it still had the dealer papers in the window!! |

It's not just seniors... it can be anyone nowadays in the digital age.
Running the red light is becoming a much more common occurrence these days. At every intersection, there are plenty of red light offenders. I'm starting to see at least 3 cars turning left on the red light even as the other cars are already moving close to the middle of the intersection! Heck, they even run the red light in front of cops! I can understand the need to briefly have a conversation on the phone. I'm personally not too crazy about being on the phone for more than a minute anywhere unless I'm already home. However, I'm starting to see more people glued to their phone, swerving, stalling traffic, driving at least 5 under, etc. It's bad enough they'll run the red light, but it's bad enough to see people not on phones who intentionally run the red. Lotta risk takers out there...

It was a year or more ago...I was parked refueling and an elderly man pulled in and put his '78 Chevy pickup in reverse to line up with a parking spot. He just kept coming and coming and boom right into my right front quarter and just parked. I got out and walked over to his truck...when he got out I asked if he had good insurance...he said sure and why? I said you just backed into me...he never knew he'd done it. He started getting all upset and I told him hey it's not a big thing...that's why they call them accidents and not an on purpose...lol. His insurance came thru quick and professionally. I don't think he needs to retest but maybe. He was quite fragile mentally...

Sorry to burst your bubble on old people, but I have had way too many close calls with young people who care more about talking and texting then paying attention to their driving. There are bad drivers in all age groups, but see more of them in the under 50 group then over 50.

Very sorry for the damage to your Z. Glad to see nobody was injured. Having good insurance is extremely helpful and of course driving with your head on a swivel. Its the car you don't see that will tag you. GLWS!
