67 really isn't that old. i agree that at a certain age seniors should be tested to ensure they can see/hear and have all the necessary awareness to drive. however, i don't really think that at 67 you should have to be taking a drivers test every 4 years, just because you are 'old' even though i dont think 67 is OLD. its not young, but its not like 80. people who are in their 70's that don't let themselves go, are often in pretty good shape in both mind and body. it isn't really until 80's where things start to deteriorate. but either way, if you stay active it prevents deterioration of the mind and body.

i think at 65, people should have to take an exam to evaluate their sight, just a simple physical to evaluate their senses. at that point, they are either cleared till they are 75 if they meet all requirements, and if not, they have to get tested in 2-4 years again t and ensure they are fit to drive.

PCH & Balboa in Newport Beach is a terrible intersection, I've seen too many close calls in that in exact location. I think it has to do with the differing speeds of cars merging from each direction.

If you're looking for a shop to fix it this thread may be helpful:

Recommendations of places to go to get parts/work done in So.Cal

Good luck with the repairs!!

Default Defiantly agree!!!!

Rui Z sorry about your car.

Last year I had a little old lady run a stop sign and almost hit me in my week old Z.
It was so close that I thought we had at least traded paint.
She didn't even see me and kept on going like nothing happened!!!
I stopped so hard and fast I stalled my Z.
If I hadn't seen her when I did I would have defiantly hit her.

She was probably busy texting a facebook status update.

I doubt age had anything to do with it, she was either distracted or has a history of running reds.

67 is not that old, and your car suffered cosmetic damage that the insurance company will fix. Peh.

It seems like those 40th 370z are bad luck. I've seen quite a few of them invovled in accidents. You should have moved your vehicle to the side of the street becuase you are obstructing traffic.

Sorry to hear about your mishap. Yes, I think you're overreacting. Try to relax for a few days and re-think your situation then.

That really blows man. I really think you ought to just get the car fixed and keep it. Perhaps you'll have some leftover dough and a turbo kit might be on the way. The accident is not nearly as bad as mine was on my black 370Z, but I feel for ya.

Having a 40th is a rare opportunity. Don't get rid of it. So what about a CarFax. As long as you own the car for the rest of its life, or at least until its paid off then you'll be able to sell it to anybody. A dealer isn't going to give you more on a trade in for having a 40th. It's not even an option on kelly blue book. You'll have to sell it later on to somebody on the forum or locally, somebody that knows its worth and more than likely they won't care about a carfax and most people don't even think about a carfax if the car appears as though it was maintained properly.

Besides, like the other people said, it appears cosmetic. The only things that might be affected by this is the headlights, horn, and washer fluid. It appears everything else was safe and sound. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Just make sure you come out on top financially with this accident. Don't just "get it fixed". You've lost time from work/school and a bunch of aggravation. Not to mention the car isn't "pure" anymore. The insurance company/old bag o bones needs to pay up for lost time at work/school. Again, Sorry man.

Really crumby thing to have happen. Probably not an age issue though. Plenty of 16-30yos run red lights, and too many of them are drunk.

Sorry to hear about this collision but your thread title is a red herring. The other driver's age has little or no relevence. Everyday, we all see people of all ages going thru red lights - especially running late yellows that are red long before they exit the intersection. Drivers of all ages likely need periodic retesting and education.

I'm speculating because I obviously don't have all of the facts, but from what you've said, it sounds like you entered the intersection when your light turned green without 'clearing' the intersection. As a car driver and especially when I'm on two wheels, I make it a habit of ensuring that traffic actually stops on their red. IMO it's a huge risk relying on the colour of the traffic light to decide whether or not I can safely pass thru or enter an intersection.

I'm not suggesting that you're at fault, especially if the other driver ran a red, just saying that we all need to drive defensively and generally assume that other drivers are going to do stupid things.

Glad thay you're ok (and I assume the other driver too).

Nobody wants to have to retake the exam, but it's a good idea for public safety. If you can drive and are not at all demented than you should have no problems with it. On the other hand, if you're 68 like my mother-in-law, and can't remember what happened 5 minutes ago, and has totaled her car and can't remember doing it... then maybe you should have to retake the test.

The problem is that the laws are written by the people in question and therefore will never happen. They are much more concerned with raising the age in which you can obtain a license. And if you look at the numbers, more people are killed or maimed by seniors than teenagers.

Age is just a number... there are many 80-year-olds that are more with it than some in their 50-60's. You have to factor in smoking history, diabetes, and a whole number of things that will effect one's ability to drive. There are many diseases that can lead to dx of vascular dementia, or retinopathy that would vastly effect the ability of a driver to see and react to changing situations.
