Now my Z feels slow!!

So i drove my friends 400/400 Audi S4 TT, and now my car just feels like a slug. My brothers 700/700 S4 will be done within the month. If i drive that all cars will feel slow.. Damn i need to FI or buy a faster car :shakes head:

tjlazer 11-09-2010 05:01 PM

Get a GT-R then show them. lol

Nitex 11-09-2010 05:11 PM

Yeah GT-R would work.. Would need to save every penny for the next year... and maybe. Or buy used...

ImportConvert 11-09-2010 05:12 PM

Get a GT-R or something not from Japan or mod heavily.

I would look into Porsche 996 Turbos personally, I would have got one too if I didn't care about maintenance costs too!

Nitex 11-09-2010 05:21 PM

I almost bought a used 996, only problem was the fact that i much prefer the 997's. So i couldn't pull the trigger.. And used a 997 is the cost of a new GTR hahah... Between the 2 id take the GTR...

I would be scared of maintenance costs as well. I thought about it, but for my money, the Z06 and that wonderful 5/100 powertrain warranty make the most sense.

LuckyJinx 11-09-2010 06:28 PM

Drove my uncles zr1. My car is a snail compared to that

kenchan 11-09-2010 06:30 PM

It's only about a 1/2 sec faster from 0-60, can you really feel that difference on the street?

I think with some of these cars the sensation of speed is different, the Z is so low to the ground and handles so well that sometimes you don't realize how fast you are going.

THe 5-60 is what is usually experienced the most, considering most people are not pro-drivers and don't do tire and clutch-smoking launches nearly as often as they pull away hard from a light/slow roll/non-revved up launch.

The Z takes nearly 6 seconds to do 5-60 (5.8), while the GT500 takes 4.5. It is a very considerable difference.

I agree with this statement 100%. The Z does not feel fast, but it is fast. Just on the way into the office this morning I was doing 60 and stepped on the gas just a bit. I could feel the car pull a little, but was very surprised when I looked at the spedo and saw I was now doing 85 (and that was only at 5500 RPM); I had to back off quickly as it was too fast for that stretch of road.

Even in 1st gear when it feels like you are not going fast, I find I am typically moving much quicker than I thought.

And please quit the bitching... for those that want to go faster, just go buy a another car then! :shakes head:

There will be another car faster than the one you have, always! ;)

Jeffblue 11-10-2010 08:20 AM

turn a corner and you'll feel like you're going fast.

This post underscores the point, "spend more, get more ". Our 370's can be the exception to the rule, but not in this case.

the pull on her car is incredible. it literally made my car feel horribly slow and i am very depressed driving it now. fortunately there aren't that many of the shelby's on the road to embarass Z's

m4a1mustang 11-10-2010 10:06 AM

Get an SRT-4. Fastest car in the world!!!

Haha, one day no one from my Z crew showed up to our Saturday meet, so I decided to go to a Ford dealer and drive a 5.0 with the track package and 3.55 gear.

Look what happened? :bowrofl:

:iagree: The Z has low torque for its hp. You don't really feel it pull. On my first Z test drive, I floored it, looked down, "holy crap I'm doing 85".

You have to pay attn to the speedo in this car. It is deceptively fast. Very easy to trick the butt dyno.

The Mazdaspeed3, on the other hand, actually has more torque than the Z. It's not quite as fast, but you feel a tug in your lumbar region with every shift.

Back in the day when the SRT-4 was "the" sport compact, I used to call them the "fastest car in the world" because of how the owner's behaved. You'd go to their forums and see some kid in a stock SRT-4 saying he beat new 911 Turbo that was running more boost. :bowrofl:

That and they insisted they were SRT-4s, not Neons. :roflpuke2:

This is true. The Z doesn't make much power at all below 4,000 RPM but from 4,000 to redline it's got nice power and the delivery is very linear, so you don't really feel the "thrust" that you would with a car that's got more torque.

in some ways i like that. i think the fact that its pretty tame (some might say weak or boring) below 4000 is what allows it to be a very easy casual driving car, but when you want it to move, the power is there, its just up high. When people say the car is slow, i feel like they are referring to the low end, because all i know is that when i'm above 4k at WOT, this thing hauls ***, and i don't think its slow.

That being said, i wouldn't mind if there was some more pull at 2500-4000

For the most part, I agree with this. Just carting around town in moderate traffic, I don't need the thing to pull like a tractor. Just want smooth cruising. When I want to play, or when I feel the need to get from 55 to 85 in a blink, I downshift and gas it, and the engine sings me a song, my heart races, and I find my happy place (the only happy place I have that doesn't involve some sort of sticky sex act or dolphins -- don't ask).

Yeah, the car is fast, you just have to rev it up to get to the power. It doesn't have the "power on tap" like a TTV6 or V8, but it's still got juice when you want it. Probably one of the reasons you can easily average 20mpg or better with city driving if you stay out of the power.

funny, one of my coworkers feels the same way about his 08' Roush after getting his ass handed to him on an abandoned air strip by me :)

Hes trading his in for a fully loaded 11' 5.0, cant say I blame him.

I previous car made around 400+ HP. First thing I said to myself, after driving the Z, "It's kinda slow", but truth be told, this Z is one of the most enjoyable car's I've driven.
