For me, the only thing that interests me is stock vs. stock.

Well, FWIW, this was not a race. It's a test and tune. The two cars were not racing each other... just the clock!

That is basically a Terminator's heart put in front of a stalled auto. Very effective.

You don't need a supercharger to go fast. GM already proved that with the Corvette.

No biggie. Sleepers are out there. Track monsters are out there. What do I care if this sleeper can own a Z? There are 12-second minivans ffs!

89 turbo mini van!

Okay. But I guess my real point was that it's silly to make generalizations about the capability of a particular make of car based on what one sees "at the track" (unless, as I said, it's stock vs. stock).

If it's true that the Lincoln has 290hp base, then that would be an interesting race vs. a stock Z. With the Z's greater hp, I would expect the Z to win, but I guess it depends on torque and gear ratios more than hp (and, since the stock cars are actually close in perf, driver skill will come into play (imagine that!)).

The MKVIII in stock form wasn't that fast. 0-60 in the mid 7's.

It was me that was in the white Z, Yes the Ford was quick, But I also Spun tires on launch and spun tires on the shift from 2nd to 3rd on that run and still managed a mid 13 sec pass... That Lincoln had drag radials or slicks I cant remember also it was about 40 deg out I couldnt launch the car like I wanted to I rolled off the line

cant remember what time the lincoln bested that day But mine was a 12.9 not sure if he beat that :)

People always think racing at the track like this is car vs. car... it isn't.

This was also at Byron Dragway in Illinois on the 6th of Nov.

This was one of my later runs, had a total of 15 or so, and like previously stated my best time was 12.9 with street tires on a very cold track :)

I agree that it isn't really "car vs. car" if the two cars in question are pretty close in performance.

But when there's a large gap in performance between the two cars, driver skill becomes nearly irrelevant.

ninous26 11-08-2010 12:32 PM

Something along the lines of high 10's.. 10.9xx

m4a1mustang 11-08-2010 12:32 PM

10.96 @ 122.87.

One_Quick_Z 11-08-2010 12:38 PM

Ha thanks, I was trying to watch it on my iPhone, Yes he should have beat me It was a full out Drag car there was a lot done to it. You cant really compair the two cars due to how highly modified the Lincoln was. Not really trying to make excuses about it, but for what stuff I have done to my car and running a 12.9 there really isnt anyone who should be dogging me about that especially with the track conditions that day.

DAN

m4a1mustang 11-08-2010 12:40 PM

I don't think anyone is dogging you at all. You ran well. If anything the OP should be dogged becuase you don't go to a test & tune to race, you go to run!
