silly question of the day for AT drivers
Sorry MT guys. Question for AT drivers...
What do you find yourself doing more... At highway speeds say between 60 and 70 and you want to pass someone or just change lanes do you just give the z more pedal or use the paddle's to down shift for more control. just wondering i find myself more and more using the paddle's. |

If I am just going to casually pass someone, like on the interstate, I just use the gas pedal. If I am on a 2 lane road and want to pass aggressively I down shift with the paddle so I don't have the lag between putting the pedal down and having the computer decide how far it should downshift.
A couple of times I have floored it without manually down shifting and it felt like the car was searching for the right gear, it went down to 3rd, then was near red line so it quickly up shifted to 4th.

freeway, i give more gas.
On street- if in automatic mode, i shift it to left to get into sport mode and at the same time i click the downshift paddle twice, the sport mode drops me down from 7th to 5th and the paddles get me to 3rd, so as soon as i do those i'm in 3rd gear and then i pass as i wave to the next person |

Driven sports cars for a while now and nothing gets out of anythings way unless it's an F250 or larger around here. Last edited by ImportConvert; 11-02-2010 at 01:36 AM. |

Around here they move over. I generally go to manual mode when I need engne braking on a steep grade. To pass, I usually floor it and the car drops down to third I think and I fly past the other car. Washington is rated as the third slowest state for drivers. Washington DC is number one due to the traffic. Here, people just don't seem to know how to get out of their own way. On the other hand, as a native New Yorker, I am continually amazed at how polite drivers are here. Didn't mean to hijack the thread.

Agreed. If anything, driving the Z made more people get in my way.
