Car stands ?
 

Hi All,

I'd like to take my wheels off for for cleaning and they may be off for a while so I'm thinking the supplied jack may not be appropriate for long periods.

Can anyone tell me where I put the stands once I've got the car jacked up?

You can use the pinch rails, but use a "cushion" of some kind, like a jack stand cover or the infamous hockey puck with a slot cut in it.

I know others use control arms and other sites.

look my thread over real quick, i put how you can have jack stands on the frame rails if you're interested :)

Yep. It takes a little effort to place the jack in a spot where it won't interfere with the placement of the jack stand, but it can be done.

Or you can jack up the whole rear and then front end.

Those work nicely.

this is what i do. and place the stands at the factory points using an adapter to clear the rails. hocky puc works but you can buy the adapters through your dealer or courtesyparts.com

im not sure if i want to be cutting anything under the car just to get clearance to the frame rails... :icon14:

check the service manual for the part number and name. i use a homemade adapter. :)

Get a real jack and some jack stands. Quit using your supplied jack to service your car, it will kill you. Seriously.

I use an aluminum racing jack with a hockey puck (1/4" slit cut down the middle) on the pinch weld placed at the front notch cut out for the supplied jack. This way I am able to lift one side completely to place two jack stands on the inside of the pinch weld. There's enough room in front that the jack stand and floor jack clear each other. Then repeat on the other side.

I have a inch weld adapter for my heavy duty jack, but that jack won't fit underneath the Z, and the adapter won't work with the racing jack. Decided to try a hockey puck after reading a few posts about it, and it works great. It's a cheap $1 "adapter", unless you live in Hawaii, Guam or Puerto Rico.

Also, never ever ever get under your car with it just supported by a floor jack.
