It took a little bit to get used to at first. But with side mirrors adjusted, I don't have any problem at all. I had been driving my baby for more than half year now.

I still have problems with right side merges. Coming out of a driveway crossing two lanes of traffic coming from the left and then trying to turn left from the middle lane. The other day a BMW honked to let me in, I could not see him in my side mirror.

Those little fish eye mirrors stuck onto side mirrors really helped all else.

I know this conversation has been going on for years and I'm new to the mix but I finally got myself the Z and the first week I had to do a few suicide merges because of the incredible blind spot when merging right. I looked on forums for weeks and I already drive with the mirrors flared out so that isn't the problem. It was the blind spot to potential motorcycles or when merging left. Here is the solution!

I also added the little long mirrors to my side mirrors because they just help me switch lanes faster without worrying I might be missing someone coming fast from 2 lanes over.

I always had my side views set so I saw a bit of the car. Turns out there's A LOT of overlap with your rear view that way. If you push the side views out, so right when a car/object leaves your rear view it gets picked up by the sides, you'll find there's no blind spot (I still look over my shoulder quickly - it's habit).

Takes a bit of getting used to, but works well.

The blind spots are pretty hard to get used to. I make sure that my passenger's seat is set so that my eyes have a clear view to the small window. Also, adjusting your mirrors using this method will help tremendously. I was paranoid as crap when I bought my car, but once I used this method, I got very comfortable.

there's absolutely no denying the 370 has very poor rear and rear side visibility. whether it's manageable is up for debate, but it definitely requires taking extra precaution.

nobody's perfect, and everyone has blind spot close calls. take a test drive and see how you feel about it.

personally, i find the right passenger side mirror pretty much useless. from the driver's seat angle, i can't even see much of the actual mirror unless i lean over. it's got to be a look over the shoulder consistently.

There are no blind spots if you adjust the mirrors properly. It can be a little disconcerting on the test drive, simply because most people are not used to using the mirrors alone.

As others have said, turn the mirrors both outward as far as they go. You shouldn't see YOUR car in the side mirrors at all, or you won't see THEIR car, which is what's important. You don't need extra mirrors to see all around.

If you are trying to look over your shoulder, you're not doing it right. You're not going to see smaller cars and motorcycles 100% of the time, you have to use your mirrors. The windows back there are too small to be useful. You'll easily lose them on the right side, and on the left side...well, I don't know how the hell you think you're seeing back that way without sticking your head out the window.

Get one of these and you won't complain about the blind spot anymore. I have one on two of my cars even the other car has no blind spot issue. With this mirror you won't even need to turn your head around to check for the blind spot but I always do out of habits anyway.

It actually looks cooler than the stock mirror.

This is exactly how I've had my mirrors setup for years. The BMW Performance School in South Carolina teaches you that, as well.

If you search, there is also another thread here, from some time back, that addresses this and the "3 mirror for full coverage" approach. I use it and have no issues.

That's how they are supposed to be used in the first place. So many people were taught the wrong way. I was also taught to use the side view mirrors to look back but that's what the center rear view mirror is for
