What is the solution to tunnel vision and blind spots? Simply adjust the side-view mirrors just beyond the point where you could see the side of the car on the inside edge of the mirror. With this setup, you almost completely solve the blind spot problem. To adjust the outside mirrors this way, follow these two steps (This of course, is for vehicles with an inside mirror): For the driver side mirror, roll up the window and press your head against the glass. Adjust the mirror so that you can just see the edge of the car. For the passenger side mirror, place your head in the center of the car (directly behind the inside mirror mount) and adjust the outside mirror so that you can just see the edge of the car. This is necessary even with convex (curved) mirrors where the image is distorted a little. When you’re in your normal driving position, you won’t be able to see the sides of the car but will be able to see other vehicles in the adjacent lanes. For those times where there is a vehicle present in the other lane that isn’t visible when checking the mirrors, the other vehicle’s position will probably be such that its front is adjacent to your door and you’ll spot it in your peripheral vision as you check the side-view mirror. Most of us have dealt with blind spots by turning our head for a quick check. This isn’t generally a problem in terms of missing something ahead; however, there can be a dangerous side effect. - See more at: https://www.motorists.org/blog/how-t....TDjCZfol.dpuf

I adjusted my mirrors "correctly" upon purchase years ago. While I've had a couple close calls merging, I don't think rear visibility is that bad, so long as your mirrors are adjusted properly. However, if you don't adjust your mirrors properly, rear visibility is a nightmare. Not as heinous as the rear visibility in my friend's Gallardo, but worse than the vast majority of cars on the road.

I've always set up the mirrors so that as something leaves the rear-view, it shows up in the side mirrors... Did this on the test drive of the 370Z as part of my preflight and the salesman was mystified until I explained it - and it drives friends nuts when they ask to drive whatever it is I have at the time as they're so used to seeing the sides of the car.
Another lost art probably. I will say that the backup camera in the Nismo Tech is a godsend... First one I've ever had, and it works a treat for putting the Z exactly where I want it when backing in. |

Raeshlavik's and Ferrari's methods are exactly right. I'll add that in another car (with more compromised visibility than this), and with a few vans, I've put Fresnel lenses in the back corners of the windows (you can cut these up to get the most out of them). They'll add 20 degrees or so to your sideward/downward visibility out of the hatch, which helps if you don't have a backup camera. |

What scares the crap out of me is when riding along in the left lane a little behind the other car and I can see the driver's face in his wing mirror. I know his mirrors are not set properly and he can't possibly see me.

I know this conversation has been going on for years and I'm new to the mix but I finally got myself the Z and the first week I had to do a few suicide merges because of the incredible blind spot when merging right. I looked on forums for weeks and I already drive with the mirrors flared out so that isn't the problem. It was the blind spot to potential motorcycles or when merging left. Here is the solution! I also added the little long mirrors to my side mirrors because they just help me switch lanes faster without worrying I might be missing someone coming fast from 2 lanes over. Last edited by Cali_Tati; 02-29-2020 at 11:34 PM. Reason: photo did not show up |

Craftsquare mirrors have a wide angle lens that will eliminate blind spots

all good advice here. you will get used to it. but beware, it seems like other drivers have a hard time seeing you too. don't drive in their blind spots and use your signal plenty of time before actually lane changing and you'll be fine.
