Default 370Z QUIETER than Mercedes GL350 :) (and a Hi from Tamz)

Hi all,

Boy do I miss being able to say I had a 370Z. As you know I had to trade in my Z last month when my H2 broke down I know some of us thought our Z's were a bit on the noisy side but I just thought I'd pop in here and tell you that I sure miss how "noisy" my Z was...because at least I EXPECTED it to be noisy (wide tires, low to the ground..) But I sure didn't have the WIND NOISE in that Z that I do in this GL.

I've been going crazy for 5 weeks trying to determine what the issue is, as any other GL I've driven (and our friends '10 GL) has basically ZERO noise. I'm the lucky winner of the worlds loudest GL...they put Run Flats on the thing, which ride pretty terrible (I think the Z rode better!). I'm hoping to get new tires and wheels on it soon. And I apparently have a faulty windshield, as there is more wind coming into my car than there is outside of the car. I'm including a video to share this "wonderful" noise I get to listen to in the new Mercedes. I think I'd just about give anything to listen to my "Z's" noise again I wasn't expecting this in a Mercedes, that touts their GL interior to be nearly as silent as their S-classes. Hmmm...(especially on a $70K car!)

So it's going into the shop tomorrow, to hopefully be fixed. Just thought I'd pop in here and remind everyone to enjoy their Z's for me. I sure miss my baby. (and miss this forum too!) I feel a little like a cheater, as I had to find an MB forum to ask a few questions about this wind noise, before I took it to the dealer and went bat-$hit on them about it. (I have already brought it to their attention when I had to bring it in after 2 weeks of owning it for the engine light coming on. Bad NOX sensor, apparently. They told me they couldn't hear it?!?)

Here's my new "quiet" Mercedes Benz:

That sucks, Tam, but I'm sure they will fix it. We have a CLK and the Mercedes centers have always been more than helpful.

That's what I'm hoping for. I am pretty sure they didn't even drive the thing to listen to the wind noise the first time I brought it in, it's pretty un-missable. Within 2 weeks, the electric 3rd seats stopped working, the engine light came on and the clothing hook thingy fell out (on the drive home from buying it!) It was broken/cracked and someone had stuffed it back in there with a tissue. Nice! Car only had 8 miles on it when I bought it, I don't think it had even been test driven before us, the seats were still in cardboard.

Aside from that! I love everything else about the car. I can even deal with the run flat tires making the ride crappy-Coming from the H2 and the Z, I honestly seriously understand road noise/wind noise-- But to this degree--no way.

Thanks Steve!

It sounds like you are driving past the airport. I am sorry and they will make good on it I am sure. All the best.

Next time take them for a ride and have them hear exactly what your talking about and why its bothering you, so there is no confusion, some dealerships try to fix anything the "cheap" way lol.

True that. As evidenced by the broken clothes hanger they used tissue to hold into the hole. Perhaps they thought I wouldn't notice, and I may not have, had it not fallen out on the drive home from buying it. LOL!

I AM however, enjoying the 28mpg I get on the freeway in the thing. Having a slightly harder time getting used to the lag this turbo diesel seems to have at take off, but once at speed, its great. My husband says the lag is "exaggerated" by the fact that I used to drive a 370Z, which took off like a rocket I suppose he's right.......

Some claim. 32mpg in this thing..so far 28 is my best ..but I tend to have a heavy foot. This new diesel is pretty amazing. And QUIET!! It does use the ad-blu..the urea based system? I'm new to all that. But let me tell you coming from 10 mpg in the H2.. 28 is just fine!

That's awesome. I know I'd much rather have the GL than the H2. It's a nice ride.

I like the GL a lot better than the ML and the other little baby SUV. I checked out the baby SUV once and really thought it felt pretty cheap inside.

Dang! That thing definitely is noisy.

On a side note, my dad had a '64 Mercedes and we got 42mpg once. Gotta love a diesel. It was great for keeping people from tailgating too.
