It's more a personal thing... like, "what if aliens attack and I only have 1/4 tank instead of a full tank? Then I can't drive as far to get away and will have to bail on foot and deal with the aliens."

The gauge is purposely designed like this in all cars. All cars gas gauge will indicate empty and still have about two gallons left in the tank. Theres two reasons for this, one being the fuel starvation issue mentioned already and the other is to put you into "oh **** I need gas now" mode leaving you plenty of gas to find the nearest gas station. If they didn't leave you that extra 2 gallons of gas once you were on empty there'd be a ton of idiots running out of gas stranded all over the place.

You are correct. Unfortunately, on the Z, you could hit fuel starvation if you make aggressive turns.
Not sure yet if aggressive braking could trigger the starvation. Quote:

I agree, the fuel indicator on these new Z's are ridiculous....It will go from 36 miles to like 22 within like 3 miles of driving and thats driving it at low RPM's....it bothers the hell out of me lol.

35 miles after it started warning me with the "oh sh*t" type warning, we filled up with 18.5 gallons after idling a bunch in construction traffic.

I think it'd be better to have a full tank when you decided to run away from the police. Hell, you know you're going to jail anyway, mind as well drive until you run out of gas the longer the better. |
