370Z hidden menus?
I was reading this article:
BMW?s On-Board Computer Secrets This kind of got me thinking about the ECU on our Z's. I mean, it's pretty obvious the on board computer can display much more than it does. I've read somewhere on here som tedious way to reset/view your CEL's, never tried it though. Anyone know of any other things like this? Surely some nissan techs have to know this and wouldn't mind sharing no? |
I am with gaveup on this, I know the GTR has a few little secrets but never heard anything on the 370Z...So if anyone knows please share with us.
|
the Z has a invisable cloaking device but other than that I dont know it either =\
|
The VDC off button jettisons all four wheels while in motion.
|
Funny people lol...If the Z really has a cloaking device, than im getting a new license plate that says Predatr! lol
P.S. Give me some Rep Power baby! |

Phelan that is a unfortunate incident that someone went through, its very poor taste to even say that. Dont think youd appreciate it if it happened to you and someone did that.
|
Wow, so basically there are a couple people in this thread who don't care to learn more about what the ECU on this car is capable of, so instead of contributing, they make moronic comments (not nizzzmo as he seems to be getting at where I am going with this). Good job. Unfortunately, you're not very funny...at all.
Regardless of the morons, I've been trying to find something else about this, but nothing is really turning up. |

Frankly it's just more trouble than it's going to be worth in the end. A code reader is $100 if you're worried about CEL codes. As for any other 'hidden' features...what are you hoping for? I can't think of many exciting possibilities that I could 'unlock' from the ECU. More lives? This isn't Contra.

I think he's talking about the display and maybe showing different things like how many gallons of gas is in the tank, or how old the car is in days...That link for BMW explains what certain BMW's can display with some hidden data within the ECU. Also he was just asking a question.

Well one feature I'd love is the ability to get more information on a single view. Why not have MPG, time of day, outside temp all displayed at the same time? It annoys the piss out of me that I can only see one at a time. |

Also, I disagree, I thought it was very funny :roflpuke2: |
Please find my tire pressure for each wheel! Cheap *** bastards took that feature out...

It denotes things I don't care about or have access to already. Time I have a clock in the middle of the dash. MPG like I care moment to moment, which is also displayed on NAV screen, along with the time. Range. I use the gas guage and trip odometer. Miles. Again I have an odometer. Temp is the only useful display. Useful is almost an overstatement. I also have a window that I can roll down and know if its hot warm or cold. If the car had dual or split guages on the dash, such as oil and water temp together. The volt meter would move to the current gas Xmas lights and become the gas guage. The clock stays the clock. I just made all this up on the spot. So there may be plenty of room for improvement. |
The Infiniti G35 had several options that could be programmed by the dealer. A list of them was published on the G35 Forum several years ago. For example, I had to get the dealer to program the alarm settings to flash the lights twice when arming and once when disarming without beeping the horn either time. That was not something that could be done with the key fob. The dealer could also program how fast the windows went up and down and a few other tweaks. My dealer did it at the first service at no charge.
I don't like how the 370Z alarm function can be programmed to disable the horn, but it does not flash the lights at a disarm if the horn is off. That is stupid. So I have been wondering if there are also dealer programmable functions like the hidden ones on the G35. Kind of like the non-published menu at In'n'Out Burger :yum: |
I wish you could check how many more miles to an oil change etc. without having to be in park. still can't figure out the extra matenince stuff on there.
as for the clock that was really a dumb place to put it. we need a oil pressure gage there at the least. |

well yeah, the clock is completely pointless if you have touring version. base i'd consider it not to be that bad, but it's easily the most extraneous out of all of them.
like xan, i'd like to get the tire pressure sensors to show me some numbers if it could. if i could figure that out it'd be golden. anything's better than a stupid amber light going "hey i'm kinda flat". but i'm considering in the future opening up the dash and playing with it, then i'll look at what we can access that usually isn't 'available'. once i can get one off of a old junked one, maybe. i think there's space over there and i'm usually decent w/ electronics. (dealerships actually put a sticker up to remind me hahaahah) |
I really do wish that we still had the tire pressure sensor still...Ill ask the tech that works on my GTR and see if he knows anything.
|
Damn I missed phelan's apparent lack of sensibility.... again.
Anyway... the video of that car losing not one, not two, not even three... but ALL FOUR of it's wheels is GOLD! :bowrofl: |
you'd think it'd be easy to put on in if we dont though. the sensor is giving it some sort of reading, we just need to splice the data out of it.

Krowten-Dog posted a useful tip on this a while back. There is a system menu and there are a number of things you can adjust with it, including the bluetooth volume (which I found useful):
1) Turn the car to "ON" or "ACCESSORY" 2) Turn Audio off by pressing the volume knob in (only necessary if it is on) 3)Press and hold the SETTINGS button (If the safety acknowledgment screen comes up, press enter to get past it, then press and hold the SETTINGS button) 4) While still holding down the SETTINGS button, turn VOLUME KNOB approximately 20 clicks in either direction but do not press the knob (i.e. don't turn on the audio) This gives you several menus for checking a variety of diagnostic functions, including a system self-test. You can also reset and control a number of bluetooth, speaking and other features. Hope that helps... :tiphat: |
Awesome ocfolist....This thread is becoming useful, ill still ask my technician tomorrow and let you guys know what he says.
|
do you need to time the clicks no the volume knob, or can you just zip the knob along until you see something on the display?
|
3 posts and the thread was derailed, I knew it would happen. LOL
|
With the car to "ON" or "ACCESSORY", just make sure the radio is off, then press and hold the "SETTINGS" button. While you are keeping the button held, just spin the VOLUME KNOB about 20 clicks in either direction. There's no restriction on speed or anything; just make sure the button is being held while you are doing it. It's very easy and you'll have the menu up in no time.
