Custom Sub Enclosure - 370z KY owners

I build and sell custom sub boxes on ebay. I am trying to get a design for a 370Z. if anyone owns a 370Z in the central KY area (or dosn't mind a drive) i would like to use the car to design a template. in turn i will either give you the custom sub enclosure (final product) or $150 . I have a few designs for the 350z but the 370 is significantly different. you can see my work below. Thanks!

I agree that it would be advisable for him to become a sponsor but all a mod needs to do is erase the ebay link. I think his intentions are good, and this could afford some guinea pig a free sub enclosure as well as a clean audio mod for people in the future.

customboxman 03-13-2009 09:02 AM

Oh, i'm not trying to advertise my ebay store or sell anything. My only intention for showing my ebay page is to show what i can do to anyone interested. I have used this method to get templates for the other cars that i sell boxes for. Hopefully i will have some luck finding a driver in my area, If i can get a design for the 370 and have any luck selling the boxes i will concider becoming a sponcer on this site and offering deals to the site members.

I would recommend talking to AK

Not trying to be an ***, but sadly your intentions don't really count in this case. You are advertising and that is not fair to the folks who have paid a pretty penny to do so on this forum. I would do something about that post.

customboxman 03-13-2009 12:06 PM

okay, i removed the link and added some pictures instead.

Customboxman, first of all, welcome to the370z.com. I am going to keep this thread open since you're looking for a 370Z in your area to test your prototype. Once you get the car, let us know how things go. But whenever you're ready to sell these boxes, you would have to become a sponsor in order to be fair with other paying sponsors. Thanks. I am very curious to see what kind sub box you guys come up with.

Anatoray 03-13-2009 01:53 PM

I am in the Louisville area, so I am pretty close. How far away are you from the ville and how long would you need the car? Would the fact that I have a touring model matter at all?

customboxman 03-13-2009 03:57 PM

i am about 1 hour and 30 min from louisville. the box will take roughly 4 hours to build but i have a pretty good idea of what i want to do with it and i think it will turn out really nice. the 370 is a little more forgiving than the 350. the touring model will work fine, if there is a difference i will just list the enclosures as "touring model only". give me a call if your interested!

Thank you for letting me keep my thread, looks like i might actually have some luck finding a car. it may take some time for popularity to build but when it does i will most definately become a sponcer, as i have had luck on some other forums with it. if you don't mind could you pm me some prices you offer. customboxman 03-19-2009 12:23 AM

Good news, I think i have found a local 370z to use for the custom enclosure!!! if everything goes well, i should have it this friday. does anyone have any preferance for a custom setup??

ConchZ2 03-19-2009 02:29 PM

Customboxman,
My preference for a custom subwoofer setup would be on the spare tire. If you get the chance, view the 370Z Touring model, it’s where the sub is located (on top of the spare tire). I’m thinking that if it is possible for a sub placement, it wouldn’t take away what little storage space the Z has to offer and you would still have a spare tire.

customboxman 03-20-2009 06:33 PM

The custom enclosure for the 370z is finally here, Let me know what you all think, anything you like or don't like about the box.

thats sick!! still plenty of truck space...so how much??

Anatoray 03-20-2009 06:58 PM

Can you take a photo of it with the hatch closed looking back from the seats? Looks like a slight visability issue, but otherwise looks promising.

customboxman 03-20-2009 07:51 PM

unfortunately i don't have any pictures from the front of the car looking back at the box, however i took visibily into consideration and the box sits just under the rear windshield so does not interfer with your rear view.

pluckyduck 03-21-2009 02:53 PM

That is a very nice design but seems to be way overkill. Is that setup for 12" subs? Maybe great for car audio shows or bass heads but if you're going for just good sound I would stick with putting a custom enclosure for a single 10" or 12" sub in the spare tire well. 1 - It doesn't scream STEAL ME!!! 2 - You don't lose any trunk space. JMHO

this box is actually built for 2 10" subs, I offer this design for 1 or 2 10" subs; when the car gets to be more popular i plan on doing the same design for 1 12" sub cut into the top of the box, (leaving the front solid). I have a spare tire well box for the 350 but its not nearly as popular, because people don't like losing their spare tire, so i chose to go with this design.

How about adding a shorter box, that only comes up to about the flat part of the shock towers, designed for two 8" subs?

Why not make a play on what the factory Bose has done with the unoccupied space in the spare, but better? This way you would still retain the trunk deck area, and spare.

What would be nice would be one that fits inside the spare, and takes advantage of the new breed of slimline subs that are only 3" deep.......JL and Pioneer both make them. The sub becomes stealth, sounds better than the bose, and you don't loose the spare.

He needs to be a sponsor before he can sell any boxes.

DJcuetip 03-22-2009 07:57 AM

sorry =(

tbonesteak 03-24-2009 07:39 PM

+1 for replacing bose sub with a custom. this will get jacked in la in no time being visible like that.

customboxman 03-24-2009 09:26 PM

could someone email me or post a picture of the factory bose setup? I would like to see what you are talking about getting. is the touring model the only type that could accomodate this upgrade?

DIGItonium 04-02-2009 10:39 AM

Hey Tyler,

For Bose, the subwoofer is inside a cylindrical enclosure that fits the spare wheel hub. Your existing box design should work for any 370Z since it doesn't get in the way of the spare wheel.

Your box design fits the concept I drew up over a month ago, so I can finally squeeze in a 12" sub without sacrificing trunk space.

alvinmathew88 04-03-2009 05:33 PM

basically if he were to build that it would be subwoofer specific, and it would have to downward firing subwoofer enclosure. Kinda hard to do with a universal enclosure box.

pluckyduck 04-04-2009 11:48 AM

I still say build one where there is no spare at all.

I am looking for someone to build me a custom subwoofer enclosure that will replace the spare tire location for a stealth installation. Here is a design that someone on this site had done based on the JL Audio T13W5 subwoofer.

alvinmathew88 04-04-2009 04:53 PM

i wouldnt want to lose the spare tire. just my opinion.

pluckyduck 04-05-2009 10:15 AM

Lose the spare and get AAA Gold. They take you up to 150 miles for free, no questions asked. Lose the spare and even better the weight of the spare.

My car is not a daily driver and will rarely leave town so spare tire is not something I really need. I have emergency roadside service on my insurance policy anyway. The tire being removed will help counteract the added weight of the subwoofer.
