Aloha'z Everyone!!!
Im new here due to the fact that my beloved G got totaled ![]() So I am in the market for a new ride, and the only other car I can see myself even close to in is a 370z particularly a 40th... Basically I am doing my research and everything but I would like to hear everyone elses opinion on what to be aware of and what to look for before I pull the trigger... What are some of the issues these cars have etc... Any advice and feedback is greatly appreciated ![]() I look forward to becoming a part of this community and meet the many characters that come along with the new forum family... Please pay your condolences if you got the time ![]() Like each of us, this car meant alot... but like everything all perfect things come to an end... Are you looking used or new?
My understanding is the 40th does not have the Navigation option or Auto, otherwise it is a Touring+Sport with special colors and badges.

Most likely about 80% sure I want it new...I never owned a new car before...
And I was looking for a MT for sure though...I was just curious how the OEM clutch handled? as well as the engagement point? Yeah I just found out the 40ths dont come with all the tech gadgets n stuff =( so now im looking into the touring with sports pkg... but dammm I just love the 40 interiors |

I drive the 7AT but a number of posters have stated the clutch isn't the easiest on the 6MT.
The rear view is infamously bad, there is no rear view camera (2011 supposed to have it), there is essentially no sound dampening in the back so road noise and especially debris throw up by the tires are heard real well. The hatch sometimes doesnt open on the first release, there is a TSB, but some have reported it happening after the fix. The alcantara can't be cleaned very well, so you have to be careful. Nissan dealers are often not the greatest at customer service, so if you are used to Infiniti serbice, you mighr be disappointed. Some have complained about lag or hesitation in the DBW system, especially whe the oil is hot, and others have had excessive oil heating in regular driving. If you are getting a newer 2010 or 2011 I don't think there is much else to worry about. If you are getting an old stock 2009 or early 2010, some have excessive oil consumption and have the engine rebuilt under warranty - apparently there is now a TSB for this.

I had an '04 G35 6MT a ways back, and the 370Z's clutch is similar in the way it engages, but it's stiffer and just a wee bit more grabby, making sedate launches a little difficult.
The interior of the 40th rocks, and the wife LOVES the color (I wanted RED!). BigAudioFanatic will chime in about the NAVI, I'm sure - and I'll agree with him: go aftermarket; cheaper w/more functionality. But, no OEM integration, which I'll reluctantly forgo down the road.

I had and loved my g35 coupe... 2003 with 2005 sport bumper and rays 19s... And i traded it for my 370 6MT and have not looked back.. its essentially the same car, drives very similar. just quicker and handles better...
You will not be disappointed and don't be scared away from the posts listed.. every car has there little issues but overall the 370z is a very reliable car...

Keep in mind thousands of the Z have been sold. A few have had some legitimate issues. If you plan on tracking you car you will need an oil cooler installed. There is nothing stiff about the clutch. But then, I don't have dainty legs

I've had 8 Datsun/Nissans in the past 30 years. I bought the 370 based upon reliability. Since May it has had more nights in the shop than 7 of my other cars combined. Five trips to the dealership, combined with Nissan USA, has convinced me never to buy another, based solely upon their solutions and service. Aside from this (Mrs. Lincoln) it is a fun car.

However, when Hyundai puts their nearly 430bhp V8 in the Genesis Coupe, I will be VERY interested to see what the base 'vette, 370Z,mustang GT, etc. crowd have to say... |

I have a 2010 touring/sport with navi and AT. I love the AT. When I floor the pedal, the AT lets the engine go all the way to the redline before shifting. It's automatic downshifts are a little rough, but feel to me exactly like what I would do with a manual shifter. The paddle shifting is fun. It's only issue is that there is a short (less than a second) delay after pulling the paddle and the gear changing. The AT has RPM synch, so downshift is as good as I could do with MT. The sport model with MT also comes with automatic sync.
The navi is really fine. It's a Toshiba in the 2010 with a hi-res screen, audio and video inputs (for a DVD player), USB input with iPod interface. I had a backup camera installed and it works perfectly with the navi screen. In spirited street driving I get the oil temp up to about 240 at the highest. Because of the discussions about boiling brake fluid (the wheel wells are not really ventilated), I am swapping (being done as we speak) the rubber brake lines for SS and changing brake fluid the AP Racing DOT 5.1 (the only AP fluid certified to work with ABS). The tires are summer Bridgestone Portenza's. Ok year round in Hawaii ![]() So far (1,700 miles and a month and a half into owning my Z) there have been no issues. This is my fourth Nissan. I had a 240Z -- one of the first--a 1996 Pathfinder, a 2004 Pathfinder, and now a 2010 370Z. I have no complaints at all about the quality of the cars or the dealer responsiveness. |

I have a 2010 touring/sport with navi and 6mt. Basically the same car as SeattleLion, but with a manual. It's my first manual and I love it. I had a very easy time learning how to drive stick. I really like the navigation, I have no issues with it. Blindspots are huge in this car, so be careful backing up or changing lanes. I'm going to see if installing a backup camera from the 2011's is possible.
The synchrorev feature is great, makes down shifts fun as heck and super smooth. The tranny makes noise once in a while and the tires are noisy as well, but none of those sounds are overpowering and that's what I love about this car. Coming from an 05 Honda Accord Coupe V6, the honda was so numb. It took me from point A to point B just fine, but the Z makes me take the longest possible route from point A to point B so I can sit in her and enjoy her for longer. Sry to hear about your G. |
