Anyone else experience this with their hoods?

I notice that when I am sitting in the car, the hood would be so hot that you can see the heat come off it. Is this good or bad?

I notice that when I am sitting in the car, the hood would be so hot that you can see the heat come off it. Is this good or bad? Would it damage the paint or anything mechanical?
