I have a friend that has a 2001 camaro ss. He took the stock Ls1 out and put a lq9 in there(same engine as the silverado ss). He added a cam, intake, and exhaust and he is making over 400hp to the wheels. He says he runs the 1/8 in around 7.5-7.6
Kind of off topic I know, but if its possible, and if you want a torque monster this would be unique as well. |

Hopefully it's more than just a LITTLE over 400 to the wheels lol. Considering the motor, he should either be spraying, or boosting the living crap out of it. That, or step his game up with the cam :-p Judging by his time, he's running a mid-high 11-second quarter. Not particularly amazing.

Oh and yeah, he is spraying. The town I am from is VERY small and even though this build seems "normal" and not particularly fast, here its "amazing" and "holy **** fast" hahah. It is all relative though. For example, my 370z is considered an "exotic" to most people here haha. Don't get me wrong the Z is a great car, but by NO means ANYWHERE near an exotic |

A blown LS1 for an LQ9 makes a lot more sense. Also, when I mean spraying the crap out of it, I'm talking 200-300 shot. I was spraying a 100 wet shot with my cam, and it put down about 520 to the wheels....stock bottom end. But, for what it's worth, this is what you can do with one of those 6.0L's, and this was done wayyyyyy back in 04/05. I helped this guy out with another build he had (a Ford Fairmont swapped with a big single-turbo 5.3L from a Silverado with stock block, stock bottom-end that ran 9's lol). That was in Omaha! Not much going on in that area :-p. Small town, schmall town. Then again, lotsa rich folk in Omaha :-p. This guy was not, however - just knew how to fab, and did it well...

However, with relatively minor mods, that motor can easily handle probably 600-700 WHP without issues and without going all forged. Rod bolts, fuel pump, injectors/tune/fuel rail, LS2 intake manifold (or bigger probably), cam/valve springs/pushrods, and a good boosted setup would do him fine. That, or ridiculous spray, but I never was a huge fan of spray in the end.

600-700 on a stock block is what makes these motors, wether it be the lsx or lqx, so sought after. They are fairly light and can handle a lot of power, and not to mention fairly cheap. |

nothing wrong with the LS1... 02+ are the better ones if your just doing the straight swap... finding one with a T56 tranny is pretty easy and you can find a donor pretty easily
