the silly thing is that I haven't done more than intake/exhaust/tune to the engine because I want dependability, but I've lost track days for brakes, suspension, wrecked from an oil cooler line, fuel starvation, axle/differential problem, so I am starting to wonder if the FI upgrade would be any worse.

Haha. I intend to go S/C eventually. But that's after a lot of other things happen. 2 years, and she's paid off!

Uhhhhhhh....why the 2002? The intake manifold is easy enough to find, but if you have the thing pulled already, you may as well put on a better intake manifold, cam, and get the heads re-done too. And besides, the 2002 was the last year of the 4th gen haha.

Either way, I don't think I'd want to do an LS1/LS6 - I'd want to go LS2/LS3, minimum.

I have a friend that has a 2001 camaro ss. He took the stock Ls1 out and put a lq9 in there(same engine as the silverado ss). He added a cam, intake, and exhaust and he is making over 400hp to the wheels. He says he runs the 1/8 in around 7.5-7.6

Kind of off topic I know, but if its possible, and if you want a torque monster this would be unique as well.

...I don't know why someone would pull out the aluminum 5.7 LS1 to replace it with an iron/aluminum 6.0 LQ9 and only make 400 to the wheels? I cam-swapped my LS1 with a baby 224/224 cam and an intake manifold WAY too big for it (FAST 90), and made just shy of 400 to the wheels...

Hopefully it's more than just a LITTLE over 400 to the wheels lol. Considering the motor, he should either be spraying, or boosting the living crap out of it. That, or step his game up with the cam :-p

Judging by his time, he's running a mid-high 11-second quarter. Not particularly amazing.

I think the ls1 was blown to hell and they had an lq9 laying around(not 100% sure.) I agree 100% that it doesn't make sense to swap out a heavier motor for realistically the same HP, but I guess given the circumstances of his situation it was something unique and different that he could do.

Oh and yeah, he is spraying.

The town I am from is VERY small and even though this build seems "normal" and not particularly fast, here its "amazing" and "holy **** fast" hahah. It is all relative though. For example, my 370z is considered an "exotic" to most people here haha. Don't get me wrong the Z is a great car, but by NO means ANYWHERE near an exotic

Oh no, you're very correct. I get lots of looks back in my hometown in NY. 6 months of winter prevents most from buying one there haha.

A blown LS1 for an LQ9 makes a lot more sense. Also, when I mean spraying the crap out of it, I'm talking 200-300 shot. I was spraying a 100 wet shot with my cam, and it put down about 520 to the wheels....stock bottom end. But, for what it's worth, this is what you can do with one of those 6.0L's, and this was done wayyyyyy back in 04/05.

I helped this guy out with another build he had (a Ford Fairmont swapped with a big single-turbo 5.3L from a Silverado with stock block, stock bottom-end that ran 9's lol). That was in Omaha! Not much going on in that area :-p. Small town, schmall town.

Then again, lotsa rich folk in Omaha :-p. This guy was not, however - just knew how to fab, and did it well...

Holy crap 26 PSI?!?!? That is an awesome build! Thanks for sharing that video! I will definitely pass that along to him, that way he will start pushing that motor a little bit more!

nothing wrong with the LS1... 02+ are the better ones if your just doing the straight swap... finding one with a T56 tranny is pretty easy and you can find a donor pretty easily

Other than minor part changes, why is the 02+, better than say, the 2000?
