This was my previous ride

I've always wanted one since I was 7 years old. I finally bought one but kept it for 3 yrs. Got rid of it for re-occuring issues that GM has fixed, updated, new TSB's and just never had a permanent fix for. If I get another one it will be a 68-72 Roadster.

What year is it? It always takes GM a few years to "get it right". The new C6 is a lot better than the older one. Still the QC leaves a lot to be desired on a car of that price. That being said, all cars have flaws. I couldn't find a new 370Z on either car lot I went to that wasn't scratched. They have junk paint or Nissan dealerships like to kick their cars. They overheat. Etc.

It seems that under 100K, you just pick your poison, and I can't afford more than 100K on a car, so I compromise along with you.

That beign said, I love white. Owned a black car, silver car, red car, dark green car, and if anyone still made a dark green car, it would be my favorite, but noone does.

Pretty car! Too bad it gave you so many headaches.

Same with my R50! $3k in repairs in 10 months before I dumped it.

Do you hate/love cars?!!

MY1STZ 10-13-2010 03:40 PM

It was an 05. I was looking to buy an 08, 09 or a 2010 before I decided to get a Z and noticed that a lot of the issues I had with my 05 still existed with the new models. I've gotten just so tired of not being able to drive the car when I wanted to, always have to take it in to the Dealer just got old real fast.

I like White because its different from the basic cliche Red, Black,Yellow and Blue that you see here in the Northwest. My Z is the Pearl White and I love it.

It certainly looks great! What kind of issues did you have trouble with?

NewlyIMPORTed 10-13-2010 06:01 PM

yeah nice car but you will like the 370 a lot better ;)

If you do, be prepared to spend lots of time and money on constant repairs and tweaks (I own a '72 and '73, both coupes).

cossie1600 10-13-2010 11:09 PM

I had a tranny/rear diff/wheel bearings redone. Also I had an electrical problem.

My rear diff clutch was rebuilt 3 times and the last time it was rebuilt is when I got rid of it. My BCM replaced 2 times.

Pearl White is obviously the best color. You won't hear any arguments from anyone on this forum about that.:icon17:

GM is stupid too. Rather than replacing the entire unit with a rebuilt, they have the hacks at the dealer to rebuild it. I lost my car with an electrical problem for a full month. My stability control used to kick in and slam the car to the right whenever it wants to. I had the GMPP warranty, which saved me a few bucks. Also at the time, 19" race tires were expensive. I traded it in for a Prius and RX-8. Of course the RX-8 didn't do anything for me, I ended up back in a 370.

As much as I hate GM, I can tell you Nissan service are worse!

When the Corvette was down, they gave me a Cobalt to drive. The thing was a piece of crap. Heck, it was so bad my puppy poop in there 3 times! She never did it in any of my other cars.

ProfessorDave 10-14-2010 08:19 AM

Oh sure, blame the dog! (smart puppy)

Modshack 10-14-2010 11:46 AM

BTDT! Mine was an '08, White on Red. Fun car for the year and a half that I owned it, but don't miss it at all.

Bingo! The Z only cost me $3500 including mods for a year and a half of use...Not to bad.

GM changed the fluid in '08 I think it was. Fixed that problem of noisy/prematurely dead diff clutches.

Sorry...BCM? I am having a brain-fart. Brake Control Module? If it's electric, GM went from Delphi to Bosche a couple of years ago ('08 again, I think). Completely different electronics parts manufacturer.

I think the main lesson you learned was to never buy the first year or two of a new year-model--especially from a domestic manufacturer. GM has ironed out most of the issues with the '08 and newer C6 models, though.

cossie1600 10-15-2010 09:44 AM

agree, the c6 is a much faster car than the z too. it is a harder car to drive at the limit though

The '05's had a relatively weak differential...Changed in '06. Even through '08 they were having problems with the clutch paks and many owners required either the "secret Sauce" or a replacement.

BCM is the Body control module that handles pretty much everything the engine control module doesn't.

Cause the limits were so high. Normal driving you were typically at 3/10ths if you valued you license....Getting the car up into the 8/10ths range really made it work well, but your opportunities to do this are pretty limited unless you tracked the car..

cossie1600 10-15-2010 12:34 PM

Of course, I never was able to get on the C6 on the street because I would lose my license before I even grab 2nd gear. How much power is too much? Of course now I sometimes wish I have more power in the 370 when I complained about having too much in the C6.

I track both cars, so I have a different perspective in how I view the car.

Yes, and lotus is nice if that's your thing, but I don't want one. I miss the green GM had on the C5's. THAT! was a nice green.

Looks like my 95 TA, but this is what I had in mind. This is my favorite automotive green. They only offered it on 1 or 2 YM's of the C5 as I recall. I think it's a touch darker than your '76, if not, and it's just a trick of lighting, then yeah, just like yours.:

I don't know if you have ever owned a C6 Corvette, worst yet one that was a problem child. 2 weeks before I traded in my C6 for this Z that I have, I took it in because I was hearing a grinding noise at the rear of the car. Left it at the Dealer, received a call later in the day and was told that my diff. needs a fliud flush, I told the Dealer Tech. "you guys just done it 2 month ago and I paid for it". Dealer Tech says "I will have to call you back because I have to do some research". He called me back and said that he was sorry and I was correct and The Clutch Pack has to be rebuilt and there is also a NEW TSB FOR A NEW DIFFERENTIAL FLUID. I've spoken to other C6 Corvette owners that have 08 and newer and they are still have Differential troubles. So please go walk a mile in the shoes of a C6 Corvette owner that has have and is still having problems with their cars.

Thank you

Surf this forum. Z owners here are on their 3rd and 4th transmission in some cases. Syncro issues.

Nothing is perfect, buy what you want and get a warranty on it and drive it until it breaks and then have it fixed, but try as I might, I have never found an un-breakable car.
