tags are not sent to recipients certified return receipt, therefore, the state does not really know if you have received them. you could get away with just driving with the temp sticker on the window for quite some time. when i bought my 03 350z i did this for quite a while. if any cams take pictures of your car as you accidently drive through yellow lights they have no real clue where to send tickets (toll roads)etc.....one of the other attorneys i work with had just purchsed a vette at the same time and swore he would never tag his car. i eventually put the rear tag on and got away with no fronts for a couple of years. on my way to church they finally got me for the fix it ticket for the front... good luck

Why do we (CA)have to have a front plate any way?

2 plates
Gang,
Illinois is another 2 plate state. They will bust you here if the front one is missing. I was pulled over about 15 years ago by state police for no front plate on my then Impala SS and told I needed the plate... I still do not run a front plate on my Specialty cars. But, on my everyday cars I do run the front plate. BTW the windows on all of my cars are tinted. P.S. A local cop that is a car nut and a friend does not run a front plate on his Specialty cars either. He tells me that he and his fellow officers can't see why the State Police are so demanding in requiring that front plate. It can not be seen at night or as it is coming at you at a high rate of speed. When a stop is made the officer is behind the stopped car and information from the plate is then produced.

Wow three weeks, I took delivery of my car right at the end of Jan and I still have not received my plates. I do not plan on installing the front plate for the moment, but I also have no window tint or exhaust to draw attention to myself.

I havent had a front plate on my Z for years and years and years. Have I gotten fix it tickets? a few. Mostly from those jerks at the San Francisco department of parking and traffic. I just throw the front plate on, get it signed off, and then take off the plate. done.

Also, is there anyway I can keep my car registered to Oklahoma even I move back to California? Front plates aren't required and a tint law is virtually nonexistant in OK. :/ |

I dont know about going on a record or what. They might keep track of them but these are minor infractions. Ive gotten 5+ from those parking fools and each time ive only needed to have it signed off by a cop and send in the 10 dollar fee and it goes away. Keeping your car registered in OK is a big big risk apparently. I was once told of a horror story by one person. He had been in Cali for awhile and got pulled over on THANKSGIVING. He claims they impounded his car because of the out of state plates. Not sure how long he had them like that. As for tint, it doesnt matter what plate you have on your car. If it is darker then legal and the cop wants you to take it off you will have to have it done. I have way darker then legal and no cop has ever given me grief. I guess the question is, how risky are you? Feel lucky...punk?

Your infractions are spooled and recorded on several redundant mainframes that law enforcement can pull-up when they pull you over. Become a chronic front plate violator and they will know; they will even know whether it is on the same vehicle. Out of state plates and not registering within the alloted time will also get you eventually nailed as they look for that; the only exception are those in the Armed Forces.
