Who owns both and which do you enjoy more? I have a friend who owns a 911 and a Corvette. He enjoys the Vette more than the 911.

I do not own the Porsche (my Mom's), but I have driven both. Her's is a Cayman S. I feel the suspension is a bit stiffer on her car...but the Z pulls harder. I feel the Z is a much smoother ride too.

How long has he had each car?
What kind if driving does he do? What kind of roads are around his driving- and living areas? Is he more of a straight-line guy? Is he always in traffic? How old is he? I am just asking as various factors affect the desirability of each car. I fell in love with the StingRay when I was a teenager. I have never owned one though; one day, i might. Time and time again, when these cars are tested, the Porsche wins --- except probably straight line. There is no substitute for cubic inches! I currently own 2 Porsches. I used to heavily collect them, and rebuild them. Getting too busy so I sold the rest and bought the Z. Last edited by cab83_750; 10-10-2010 at 06:23 PM. |

Me? I am a strong believer of "using the right tool for the right job". I wouldn't mind owning both. If I did, I would drive the Corvette when I know I would be stuck in traffic. The rest if the time, I would drive the Porsche. |

Wife owned a Porsche. Loved the Porsche.
Own a 370. Love it even more than the Porsche. The interior of the Porsche was no better than my touring/sport Z. |

I have a 930 (911 Turbo) along with the Z. The 930 is pretty much a strict track car with serious horsepower, coilovers, short gear box, roll bar and recaros. It would dominate the 370 like it was a civic at the track. On the street, the Z is much more comfortable but that is really the difference of having a track car versus a street car. I've had NA 911s and have driven plenty of boxsters and caymans (on and off the track). If money wasn't an issue, I'd take another 911 or Cayman S over the Z but to get to equal dollars you'd be looking at a 50k+ mile used Porsche. Opted for the Z as I wanted a new car with a warranty for a change. Every used German car I currently own has reasonably high milleage and costs me money everytime I turnaround. All around though, the Porsche is a completely different car in a different class.

To answer OPs original question, I enjoy both cars. But, as I am more connected to the road inside a Porsche, I feel a lot lot more safer --- thus, the P-car wins. This car feels more raw and feels it's "on rails".
My Z is a keeper; however, I went to the Nissan dealer for something and made a mistake of checking the cabriolet. Now, I feel like trading my coupe for the cab! For those people thinking about buying a p-car, my recommendation is "unless you are mechanically inclined, or if you can't afford to pay mechanical mtce, don't buy a p-car. For reference, 10+ years ago, a tune up at the dealer was around $1,000.00. |

I previously owned six 911 Turbos and three 911s. The 1996 and later 911 Twin Turbos and 1999 and later 911s are simply in a different class and cannot be compared to the 370Z. Of course, maintenance costs and hassles are also in a different and stratospheric class.
Now, a stock 1988 911 Turbo is a different matter entirely. The terms "lift throttle oversteer" and "turbo lag" took on new meaning with my 1988 Turbo Targa. Stock for stock, the 370 would absolutely destroy it. Once modified by Champion Racing, however, it became a different beast! |

Considering the prices for used 1988 911 Turbo's, I'd say perfectly fair.
A 1991 NSX will be cheaper than a 370Z, but I don't think it would be destroyed by it, and that's 19 years

I have a 1979 911 sc and a Z but its a (350z). I would say the porsche is alot more fun to drive for speed and just to cruise. But when it comes to maintenance, it makes you wish you never invested the time and money into it!
