Am I too old for a Z
I'm 52. My Porsche friend said I'm too old for a Z and not from the correct country of origin for a Vette. Is my friend guilty of age discrimination and racial profiling?
I rally enjoyed the 370z. |
Nope. Rock On....
|
I'm 67 and love my Z. Do my own bolt-on mods and HPDE it.
You are never to old (well, most of the time). |
Nah. Have at it. 53 is still pretty young these days.

That's BS. If you enjoy it then age doesn't matter.
|
It's all about lifestyle. If the z or vette fits yours then get it. He's just pissed that he over pays for his car and maintanance.
|
Yes. You should be driving a Corvette at that age.
|
What country of orgin are you from that would prevent you from driving a vette?
|
This person is not your friend. I've seen people of all ages driving the Z (I'm 46). I have to admit that the Vette seems to draw a more middle-aged and up crowd, but that may have to do with the price.
And country of origin?!? This is the USA. A country founded on freedom from automotive persecution! |
Damn 52??? please refrain yourself from driving any sports car at that age. In the unlikely event that you're still ok to drive safely then you may only drive an Oldsmobile or a Cadillac.

Yes you're too old for a Z. At your age, a corvette or porsche 911 are more appropriate. Can't argue with statistics!

I don't believe in age/sex/ethnicity restricting the types of cars one might consider (so, if you want the lime green VW Beetle, go get it!) |

I see 'vettes driven by blacks, whites, men, women, and everyone from 18-80 where I live. They are on every street corner almost. On my 13 mile drive home from work I usually see at least 3-4, and I come home at around 7am. |
I believe in buying a car that you can actually afford. Too many young guys driving Zs IMHO.
Sorry young guys, but wait 'til all the real bills start kicking in. <46. |

If you can't afford a car it doesn't matter what age you are, but likewise, if you CAN afford a car, then it doesn't matter what age you are. i'm 22, and it was totally within my means to get a 370z. new plan: Sell Z Buy '02 honda accord, drive it until the wheels fall off Buy a house Get Married Have kids Pay for college Die Sounds fun. |

aww sounds like someones a bit bitter that they couldn't afford a nice car until they were too old to really enjoy it. (no I have no idea about your financial situation or your physical well being, I just like making blatant assumptions about you) |

I just tend to think that "being able to afford" and "being able to finance" have gotten confused. |

Still, like another guy said, we've got to live our lives. Might as well enjoy what you can when you can and not regret missing out on things. |

its wrong to generalize that an older guy shouldn't be driving a japanese sports car because they are for 'kids,' and its wrong to generalize that if a kid is driving a nice car that he's in huge debt or his parents bought it for him. Obviously, there are limits to these things. My detailer had an 18 year old kid bring in his 911 GT3. OBVIOUSLY his dad bought that (which is the truth). and on the other end, if some older guy is driving a corolla, yo don't know if thats his train station car or if thats just all he's got. |
I just got my Z a couple of months ago, and I turn 50 in a couple of months.
Hell no, you're not too old!! |

I bought my Z in March of this year @ 52 years old. I turn 53 in 2 weeks. Love my Z - DO IT!
Once in a while its kind of difficult getting in and out - due to a bad knee and also a bad ankle from my motorcycle accident, but its doable. Its an awesome car. |

You are only too old for a car if you can not hunch or bend into it without too much pain. |

Does your friend like cheeze burgers? |
Too old! I'm 57 and the day after I bought mine one of my great friends who is 80 bought one as well. He traded his tricked out Miata on it and hasn't looked back. Age is a state of mind. I will NEVER be to old to have a sports car.
I passed a group of Vette's last weekend that was heading to a car show. Must have been 30 or 'em. None of them acknowledged my presence as I passed, and my wife and I waved at all of them. Not only were they all older than me, and like I said above, I'm no spring chicken, but they were a bunch of snobs. Don't want to associate with those folks. Buy what you want. I love it when others try to tell me what I "should" be driving. I always ask them how many of my payments that they intend to make. When they want to pay for my car I will give them some say in what I own. AZ |

Here is a biased timeline for when you should have a Z.
1. 18-22 -- rich or parents bought it for you. Go for it 2. 22-26 -- pay off your damn student loans first 3. 27-33 -- first good job after college -- Z time Branch point M = Married S = Single D = Divorced 33-38(M) -- buy furniture, curtains and a minivan -- no Z :( 33-38(S) -- buy video games and a motorcycle. Got a garage? Get a Z 39-48(D) -- wife took furniture and curtains -- still got garage? Get Z 39-48(S) -- take a social skills class and get a date (jeez are you picky or just ugly) Branches Merge 49-60 -- tell kids to pay for their own damn college -- get a Z 61-70 -- tell grandkids to pay for their own damn college -- get a Z and a Porsche (80-89) :) :driving: |
I fall into number 1. I am 21 years old.. Don't really have rich parents but I live at home for free and only have a cell phone bill. So I have a bunch of cash to spend.. I'm just looking to finance a new Z for no more than 48 months and paying about $150-$200 extra on top of my regular payment. I do this with the G and its helping me pay it off way faster. Feels so good to have no more car payments on my old G in a few months. Then its time so save for a decent down payment.

You're never too old for a Z, only as old as you act and feel

But... I'm 47 and I'm not too old. |

Drive what you want, there are no "age limit" on cars. Though the Z tend to suit better on younger guys (30s,20s). Im currently 68 and I love my z!....jk im only 20. And I dont rely on my parents on this car. Bought her all by myself at age 19 (actually my parents paid half the down payment on my b-day). But reguardless, Im making my own payments. The real question is.....am I too young for this car?
