Am I too old for a Z

I believe in buying a car that you can actually afford. Too many young guys driving Zs IMHO. Sorry young guys, but wait 'til all the real bills start kicking

I don't understand this post. You want someone to buy a car they can afford, and yet you don't like it that young guys are buying a cheaper car like the Z? Those two sentiments don't go togather.

you gotta live life man, yea the money for my Z would have been better to put into a house, but you know what, i live at home for an extra year ad sock away money and it makes no difference the long run. If it was all about saving money for 'real' bills then wheres the fun. i'm not gonna buy a Z when i'm 22 even though i can afford one, because i'm gonna have kids when i'm 30?

If you can't afford a car it doesn't matter what age you are, but likewise, if you CAN afford a car, then it doesn't matter what age you are. i'm 22, and it was totally within my means to get a 370z.

new plan:
Sell Z
Buy '02 honda accord, drive it until the wheels fall off
Buy a house
Get Married
Have kids
Pay for college
Die

Sounds fun.

I rally enjoyed the 370z.
I think your friend is more guilty of brand snobbery than anything.

I'm working on a slight variation:
Buy Scirocco
Get married
Have kids
Sell Scirocco - buy subaru
Buy house
Buy RX-8
Sell RX-8, Buy MINI Cooper
Sell MINI Cooper, Buy Mazda, pay for college
College almost paid for, Buy Z!

The trick is in intersperse the cars with the responsibilities

aww sounds like someones a bit bitter that they couldn't afford a nice car until they were too old to really enjoy it. (no I have no idea about your financial situation or your physical well being, I just like making blatant assumptions about you)

I tend to be blatant, so thank you.

I just tend to think that "being able to afford" and "being able to finance" have gotten confused.

I wont disagree with that statement.

Still, like another guy said, we've got to live our lives. Might as well enjoy what you can when you can and not regret missing out on things.

I agree with what you're saying. Anyone with decent credit willing to take on huge monthly payments for 7 years can get into almost any car. Some of these loan terms are almost in mortgage territory. but I'm 22, i put 30k down on my 370z. 17 of which were from the sale of my altima. I think that's affording, not financing.

its wrong to generalize that an older guy shouldn't be driving a japanese sports car because they are for 'kids,' and its wrong to generalize that if a kid is driving a nice car that he's in huge debt or his parents bought it for him. Obviously, there are limits to these things. My detailer had an 18 year old kid bring in his 911 GT3. OBVIOUSLY his dad bought that (which is the truth). and on the other end, if some older guy is driving a corolla, yo don't know if thats his train station car or if thats just all he's got.

i love to see older folks in FUN cars. Damn, i'm sick of seeing all these older folks driving around in caddy's, lincolns, mercs, bmw. Who cares if someone's gona say its a mid life crisis mobile, or not age appropriate. yes, it would be funny if a 57 year old had an underglow kit on a civic, but thats funny no matter who you are/how old you are.

I bought my Z in March of this year @ 52 years old. I turn 53 in 2 weeks. Love my Z - DO IT!

Once in a while its kind of difficult getting in and out - due to a bad knee and also a bad ankle from my motorcycle accident, but its doable.

Its an awesome car.

I agree with you on all that you said here. You're definitely an example of "affording".

If you really want to drive your Porsche friend crazy ask him why the Germans can not keep up with the GTR or the Corvette ZR1, and when does he think they (Germany) will make a car that competes. Throw in a few internet videos, including that of published data to make your point and watch the denials and excuse making.

YouTube - Porsche 911 Turbo vs Nissan GT-R vs Audi R8 V10

YouTube - ZR1 Smokes GT-R: Chevy Corvette ZR1 vs. Nissan GT-R

If your buddy is like mine, you can further rub salt in his wounds by mentioning the financial savings as well.

You are only too old for a car if you can not hunch or bend into it without too much pain.
