takes ages getting to 260 past 220kmh?

It's not a new issue but I feel the Z is abit lacking in the 220 to 260km/h surge. it just seems to take a mile to get to it. the rest of us getting the same message? Mine's stock btw...

Is that where 4th gear runs out? Sorry, I don't have a Z, but I know where 4th gear ran out on my WS6, it slowed way down. I usually called it quits when 4th ran out because at that horsepower level (around 350), you're just a dead duck, then. The Z's gearing should help it some, but yeah, it's just a 332bhp 32XX# car and at that speed it's going to feel pretty dead after you shift into 5th.

I can't say that I have had my Z up that fast. I hope you are not hitting those speeds on the street. If so, I will keep you in my prayers.

If you are...just don't post about it on the forum. Nissan might void your warranty. I'm not messing with you. A guy on the Shelby forum had his warranty voided because he used the car for competition (drag-racing), and posted about it on the Shelby official team forum. The dealership cited his post as part of the reason they would not fix his jacked up clutch (common problem in those cars). Yes, someone at Ford cruised the forum, found it, and it made it all the way up the chain.

msb3079 10-08-2010 08:26 AM

^^ I'm not condoning those speeds on the road... but who is Nissan to say you can't go the speed that their car was built to go? If you drive, shift, etc properly... what's the issue? Nissan is not enforcing the laws nor are they insuring the car.

m4a1mustang 10-08-2010 08:29 AM

I don't condone that driving either, but let's be realistic here... You're dealing with only 332 hp. The car is not going to pull hard in 5th gear from 135 to 160... not gonna happen.

msb3079 10-08-2010 08:35 AM

Oh yeah... I'm not arguing that point... but for people saying "don't publicly say that you drive your car over 120 or Nissan will void your warranty" ... makes ZERO sense.

BUTTTT... if they said "be careful if your insurance carrier sees this they will raise your rates"... that I'd agree with.

Really? In the GT-R there is a disclosure statement that you sign that states dynoing the car, driving it at ANY competative event, turning off VDC except in snow/mud, will void the warranty. I thought that was BS until I read it for myself. It is sitting on the floorboard of the passenger side of the car, at least, that is where I found it.

Here is the link where Ford voided a warranty partially because someone posted on a forum that they ran it at a drag strip:

I'm done with Ford - Team Shelby

Yep. Pretty much. 332bhp kinda peters out around 120-130 or so.

christian370z 10-08-2010 10:57 AM

If you do some breathing mods and get a tune, you can nicely amp up the top end acceleration of this car. I am assuming you are not in the US based on the fact that you use kph, but if you want more pickup above 200kph, you will need more power.

kenchan 10-08-2010 01:33 PM

Should step outside and push it.

Try a steep hill... (and a long one too).

kenchan 10-08-2010 03:49 PM

On the way home from mitsuwa some ricor neon flew past my honda fit blowing off his POS turbo. He had more rice than the 3 bags of nishiki rice I had in the trunk. :D

vehl 10-08-2010 06:09 PM

then we're all in agreement 220kmh is just about the sweet spot of the 370 then.. i think the small-ish torque figure is probably to blame as well, had a supra last time and it would run up to 260 no problems.
and yeah, i'm not in the US nor in japan where presumably the car's limited to 180. my daily 30min stint to work sometimes takes me to 180 if im lucky so that's why I brought up the 220-260 since I'm curious to see what it can do. my GTi gets up to 230 no problem with only 210hp thus you can understand the disappointment with a 120hp so-called advantage and a presumably slipperier body..

kenchan 10-08-2010 06:11 PM

i hope you crash soon.

;) im just kidding.

Cmike2780 10-08-2010 06:17 PM

If you can see, his location is Asia (where?), they might have no speed limit highways like in Germany. He is also quoting KM/H. Each 100KM/H is around 60MPH.

He is in Brunei, his country Sultan also like to drive fast,so they got nice highway for testing.

Kirkster 10-09-2010 08:39 AM

As I am in Brunei right now, I can tell you for a fact that going that fast is the only thing that will alleviate the frickin boredom...

Hrmmm. Calling what is very possibly an 11 second American vehicle "rice". Sorry, I just never saw an SRT4 that ran slower than low 12's/high 11's. Noone keeps those stock, and $1500 and a set of slicks/DR"s later, they are in the 12's, few bucks and a good driver more sees 11's.

POS Turbo. Hrmmm. Meh. I don't see many 11 second Z's on this forum.
By what definition is that rice?

Really? Someone forgot to tell me then. I got up to 140 very quickly in my Z. Had plenty of juice left too. I slowed down b/c I got scared.

I think speed/acceleration is subjective.
http://www.caranddriver.com/var/ezfl...61a7a3bb51.pdf

I think this proves the point that the Z dies somewhere around after 4th gear is done. Look at the 130-140, and then the 140-150 times.

Those things are irrelevant to what I said. You're not "supposed" to be doing those things.

But if you drive CORRECTLY.. they can't tell you what speed to go... only local law enforcement can.

True, but they can say you operated the vehicle in a manner it was not meant to be operated in. Warranty void. If they can tell you not to turn traction control off, don't you think they can tell you not to speed, too? Even LE can't tell you to leave the VDC on. Nissan can, though.

The Z is still a quick car, maybe not amazing in stock form but I can attest that my modded Z can get up to 140 pretty quickly. The better number to look at on the C&D sheet is the .98g skidpad rating!

Yeah, .98G is pretty good. I think for a car in its price range, the Z handles great!
