First big gear grinding...

This was unpleasant... Going from second to third at about 4.5k RMP, try to dodge a pot hole, miss third gear, GRIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIND. How bad is this?!

Many others on this site are guilty of that as well.

I have not done this in the Z but I did it a couple of times in my S2000. I never had any issues. I'm sure you will be fine. Like Kenchan said, "just don't keep doing it."

If you are asking, then it's not bad. Keep doing it and it might become bad, though. I missed a few shifts before and it never hurt anything. Did the 3-2 downshift in my WS6 at 80 once. Broke the rear tires loose. No problems. Well, I say no-problems, the rear-end pinion bearing and wheel-bearings went out a few K miles later. RElated? No way to know.
