Default Dk. Cherry vs. Other Colors

I know there have been a lot of complaints about Nissan paint quality.
I was curious if the quality of the dark cherry (w/ the $500 up charge) was any better then the regular paint.

I gotta agree. I think you are just paying extra for the exclusivity of blk chrry. Whenever you buy your car, just really look carefully for any defects in your paint. Once you determine your paint is tip top. Take the car home, handwash it with soft microfiber cloths and apply your favorite high quality wax. Use quick detailer after every wash. And repeat wax every 3 months or so. This gives minor protection to your paint. Also I would recommend a clear bra for the front end. As long as the car is handwashed at least bi-weekly and waxed quarterly, the paint should hold up fairly well.
Oh, NEVER use a automated car wash. Nissan clearcoat is weak and will scuff. DO NOT use touchless carwash. Reason being, they use acid based soaps that eat nissan clearcoat...
Most cars today, have crappy paint. Its not a nissan issue. Its an all round cost cutting issue. Very few sub premium car companies use high quality paint. It sucks that paints are so tempermental these days. It makes us have to work a lot to keep our cars looking good.

I was told by the dealer that the dk cherry is a multi step process, therefore the extra cost. If true, I was hoping it was a better finish

I can say that the mfg of my wing says that they use the same product and "3 step process" to paint the spoiler as the factory. I can tell you that my clear coat seems as soft as everyone else claims. The wing clear coat does not seem as soft to me as the factory body clear.

That is my technical answer.

IMHO... I like the color and like that there will be a limited number of roadsters with this color. Everyone comments positively on the color! It is the only car I have owned that people I do not know feel compelled to talk to me about.

If you haven't seen it in person, I will tell you that none of the pictures do it justice nor can they because it looks different when the light presented to it changes. From copper fleck to black. Several people only saw the car at dusk and thought it was black until they saw it later in different light.

The Black Cherry is, in that way, very similar to the 40th Anniversary paint... different every time you look at it.

They way the deals are going right now, the premium charge could really be a non issue.

PM Lou...

My G37 has regular nissan paint but I have scratchguard. Any infiniti without this option or special order has regular paint like the lower end nissans. Infiniti only applies one extra coat. That's it. I know scratch shield is no longer available to infiniti and has never been available to nissan. I'm going to bank that at best... that's my guess. I can guarantee all clearcoat is the same. My cousin has the 08 non scatch shield G37 and his paint is no better than my altima or the paint under my scratch shield clearcoat.... I don't know if this helps. It boils down to how u take care of your paint.

My Chicane Yellow was also a "special" color that I paid the extra $500 for and I can tell you that the paint is pretty soft. I have done quite a bit of touch up everywhere except what it covered by the clear bra, which looks flawless. I highly recommend getting the clear bra no matter what color you end up with.

I went to the Nissan dealer yesterday to claim my missing front spoiler..GRRRR..Woodland Hills Nissan people were no help. They told me to call Nissan ....which I definitely will.

Anyways, my 2nd purpose was to check the convertibles. The salesman showed me the the blk cherry. Well, from many many angles, it looked more brown to me than cherry. I must be getting old and more color-blind.

Amazing what salespeole can do,...now I am thinking about trading my blk coupe for a black convertible. Been thinking about going back and check a black convertible,

I love my black cherry. Everyone thinks its black far away until they get closer and see how metallic and purplish it is. I like it!!!! I get alot of compliments!!! As far as paint quality goes, its weak. I think all factory paint jobs suck! My Tacoma X-Runner had the same problem. My Si had the orange peel effect. IN 09 I was going to get the yellow. Then waited.. Saw the blk cherry and knew I had to have that color.

It can look brown. The color of this coat depends on the lighting and angles!

In the early morning, it looks dark and purplish. In the afternoon, it is brilliant and maroon. In the evening, it looks brown. And in overcast or late conditions, it looks jet black.
