Do I need an Oil cooler

I live in Connecticut. I do not plan to do high speed driving nor do I plan to track the car. I no longer have a need to speed. I do like twisty country roads. I can not see myself greatly exceeding the speed limit despite part of my job is doing so for others. Do I need an oil cooler?

Nope.

No, the need for an oil cooler is completely blown out of proportion on these forums. At least for the people who aren't tracking their car (i.e. 95%+ of all 370Z owners).

I agree

I have @ 17,xxx miles on mine (sport w/ manual) and the hottest I've seen the oil get was 235-240 cruising at 85mph in 100 degree heat. The temps range from 190 in the winter (35-55 degrees) to 210-220 crusing the country in the summer w/ spurts of speed (redline 2nd and 3rd). Your temps may be a little higher than mine at first, but will normalize after the engine has worn-in. Use a quality synthetic and have fun. No need for a cooler unless you live in the extreme South. I live in eastern NC where the temps are mild to hot/humid (June-August).

I agree. You do not need this. It gets to be 95 with a heat index of 115 on a regular basis where I'm at. I have not seen temperatures over 210.

No oil cooler needed for street driving unless you really beat the crap out of the car.

:iagree:

Heavy traffic is actually worse for heat than fast driving. Regardless, unless you track your Z (or just want one) there is no need for an oil cooler.

If you run the A/C compressor (orange light 'on' in the center of the left-most dial), an accessory radiator fan turns on and keeps the oil temps about 10-15F lower than if it's off. Just keep it in mind on the ubber hot days or if you see your temps climbing.

I have a friend with a 370. He flogs the car relentlessly and abuses the hell out of it. Treats it worse than any other car owner I know. Never changes the oil (at least not since he bought it 9K miles ago), and goes over curbs, etc.

He says 240-250 or so is the hottest it got. Also, the car is a 'vert and doesn't have a single rattle. Keep in mind that during this time, the temperatures outside here have been 90-105.

Think what you want, but it doesn't have a single rattle, even going down a nasty road WOT. I was amazed. That is what brought me to this forum pretty much.
