Wow, just voted and I am #2 who says yes. I had to pull over and let the car cool down over and over again. 260*F+ is too hot for my liking. Yes I drive my car in a very spirited manner. I often went from 220* to 255-260* in just a mile or so uphill, spiritedly. I drive this way daily (with any luck) so Friday I picked up my newly installed Nissan ss370 34 row oil cooler. Now I do not even see 220*F.

Having lived in CT for 4 years, I believe that even a little bit of spirited driving during the summer can send the oil temps climbing. I believe that the benefits of an oil cooler are not just to avoid hitting limp mode. The largest benefit is that it keeps the oil cooler which allows the oil to maintain its optimum weight and protection properties which in turn means that your engine is better protected. Mainly, it is for piece of mind as your car will not blow up if you hit 250 degrees. Also, you will not need the additional cooling for much of the year as the ambient temperature is cool enough to keep the car cooler.

I remember the first time I tried to push the car, I had never seen the oil temperature read more than 220 but it got up to 260 in no time and I was not even pushing the car that hard. That is why I am getting my 25r oil cooler installed wednesday.
