I had a car do this intermittently due a bad wheel bearing. But I agree with the others - probably a brake issue. I like the rust and pebble theories.

I had a car do this intermittently due a bad wheel bearing. But I agree with the others - probably a brake issue. I like the rust and pebble theories. I've had both happen and cause noise.
