Next Generation Z?

420z? Twin Turbo? The v6 is currently pushing it's limit for power. 332HP for the regular Z and 350HP for the Nismo. Sure there is room for a bit more but according to history, motors get bigger or more cylinders and more power for every generation that goes by. I am hoping Nissan either goes with a v8 or at least a twin turbo v6 that is 4.0L or more. If they do come out with a twin turbo setup, I may even trade in my Nismo for the next generation Nismo. That is if it looks nice. |

It's probably going to 3.8L and I highly doubt it will be a TT. It was would be nice if if was! 380Z Twin Turbo!!!

The 300ZX Z31/32 had Turbo versions yes. But that was the main reason they stopped producing the cars as there was a huge decline in sales (everyone wanted SUV's and 4 doors in the mid 90's. Now we have the economy so it's going to be hard. 370Z's arn't selling too well and I doubt a TT would increase sales. (I would upgrade in a heartbeat tho!)

The 300zx had twin turbo and a NA model, but the TT version put itself above the target price range Nissan targets.
For a new model, I would like to see a migration away from the VQ motor. Size I do not care about, but we need to be at around 370HP and 300TQ.

Seems like there is a flood of 300hp+ V6 cars hitting the market. I think it is inevitable that the Z declines some. But I do hope Nissan makes another generation.
I seriously doubt a V8. I think twin turbos might be an option. Look at Ford. They have a TT V6 setup in the SHO and it is fairly reasonably priced. Most likely they will slightly bump the displacement to 3.8L like TJlazer said.

i think they'd have an easier time marketing a turbo car than a v8. at this point, v8=automatically bad for the environment, gas guzzler (regardless of whether or not thats true). Turbos are becoming increasingly popular with the new diesel engines which have the whole "green" thing going for them. i see a twin turbo v6 fitting the Z a lot more in terms of character than a v8. plus, if it were to come with a factory turbo... that creates a lot of options for the aftermarket. keep in mind though, they don't want to eat away at the GTR. so they're probably gonna keep their distance in terms of power from the GTR.

Well, with the GT-R's power going up every year (and substantially for the next two years), I don't think they are going to need to worry about a TT Z eating into that market too much. A TT stock option would definitely keep me with a Z, other than that I might be in the market for something else when that time comes.

a twin turbo option would be the only reason i'd be even contemplating getting the new version of the Z. if they just ad some .1 liter engine displacement, and a token 15 horespower, no thanks, i'll keep mine.

I'd bet on a mass produced, detuned version of the 3.8L twin turbo in the GT-R when the GT-R move "up" a notch in the future. The research and testing is already done and that will help reduce R&D costs. The car needs little or nothing in the handling department but is being assaulted in the power department on several fronts.
